Where to Stay

My husband and I would like to go to St Lucia. We are in our early 50's and would like a fairly quiet place with a nice beach, pool and snorkeling. we also like a luxury type room along with good food. What are some suggestions of places to stay and what time of year is the best time to go.

We are in our 50's too. We enjoyed the Jalousie Plantation. It has a beautiful pool, great snorkeling, palm trees, lovely pool sites and decent food . The hotel is between the Pitons and has a good location. Nice spa and exercise room too.

Try the Sandals St. Lucia Golf Spa Resort it is a beautiful resort and the food is wonderful. The suites are very seculed and quiet and some have their own private pools. We will be their the last week of Feb.

Gail from NJ is that the Jalousie Hilton Hotel?

Gail Dec 18th, 2000 02:57 PM

Yes it is the Jalousie Hilton-its name was Jalousie Plantation. It was built by Sir Lord (cannot remember his name). the same one who developed the upscale island of Mustique. It was quite a battle for him to build this site-it is enviorment sesitive as it is built on the shore and hillside between the Pitons. St. Lucia is lush, the sand is volcanic therefore slightly black, the water is silky and lovely. The island is not easy to get around-Castries is different than the Soufrere area. We did not explore that area as it takes over 2 hours by land-and the water taxi was full. The large jet airport is on the Jalousie end-still a winding route. Some couples split between the 2 areas. Hope this helps. Jalousie was jsut rated one of the top 3 caribbean resorts in Travel and Leisure.

I second the Jalousie Hilton. I was there in Nov. and it was wonderful. Take helicopter from the airport - it is worth the extra money. We had a lot of rain in Nov. We were on St. Lucia a few years ago in April and the weather was perfect.

Pat

How game are you for something out of the ordinary? We went to Ladera on St. Lucia last year and felt like we were in paradise. It is located 1000 feet up on the side of the piton, so you aren't on the beach (but the staff will quickly transport you down to any beach you want to go to). The accommodations were what really sold us. Kind of like luxury tree houses with all the attendant luxuries. The food was wonderful and the staff treated us like royalty. A couple of friends just returned from there and gave the same "two thumbs up" review. Check out their website (www.ladera-stlucia.com)to get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

We're planning on going to St lucia in late August for our honeymoon. I've heard rave reviews on the Jalousie Hilton and Ladera. Has anyone experienced both and would like to recommend one over the other????
