Where to snorkel in 2012?
I’ve been going back and forth 100 times, trying to find what would be for us ‘the perfect’ place for a week vacation in Feb next year.
We haven’t snorkeled in a few years, so the main goal is to snorkel a lot. We looked at Roatan (but some recent robbery posts on TA scared me) and also Panama, but I am still not decided. Here is what we are looking for:
- Great snorkeling from the beach
- Safe
- Individual villa (or very small resort), on the beach
- Comfortable lodging with A/C, (TV or DVD a plus)
- Nice grounds, with some gardens/flowers for extra birding photography opportunities
- Large beach not necessary, just a small one where we can lay a towel
- Preferably an island without night life, or an area away of it
In the past, we loved the Coral Bay area of St. John and Nail Bay in Virgin Gorda. Where else can we find something similar?
I read about the great snorkeling in West Bay, Roatan – but it sounds very busy and populated, with crowded beaches. Plus, the safety issue…are these just mis-conceptions?
I really need help…Thanks

None of the places you mentioned has really good if any snorkeling from the beach.Cayman has some on the West End near Sting Ray City and some in Bonaire. The best off the beach snorkeling in the Caribbean is from the beaches of St, John.

Found this site that has a good representation of what the snorkeling is like on the north shore of Grand Cayman.
