WHERE TO GO ON VACATION??

MY HUSBAND AND I ARE EMPTY NESTERS (VERY EARLY 50'S). WE HAVE TRAVELLED QUITE A BIT WITH OUR CHILDREN AS WELL AS ALONE. WE WANT TO PLAN A CARIBBEAN TRIP THIS SUMMER (LATE JULY, EARLY AUGUST) FOR THE TWO OF US.THINKING OF GRAND CAYMAN WESTIN CASUARINA. WE LIKE TO RELAX ON THE BEACH OR AT THE POOL BUT ALSO LIKE TO SHOP AND VISIT A VARIETY OF RESTAURANTS.RESORT MUST BE SUPERB.WE'VE BEEN TO ARUBA, PUNTA CANA, BAHAMAS AND MEXICO. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHERE TO GO AND STAY WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Hi mom78 -
I'm just going to gently suggest you turn the 'caps lock' button on your keyboard off - all capital letters is "yelling" when you're posting.
Hope you get some great tips on your trip - if you think about Bermuda, let me know if I can help!

My husband and I are your age and going to Cayman this June. We're renting a condo at Plantana, which is a few doors down from the Westin. We rent a condo for the extra space, NOT so I can cook! However, it's also nice to have a kitchen where you can keep snacks and drinks. The beach is fantastic here! We're going to Hawaii in August, and I prefer 7MB to any we've seen in the Caribbean, Mexico, and Hawaii. Enjoy!

I don't know if you can call the Westin "superb" or in your style "SUPERB", but it is lovely. Pool and beach are what you might like. Shopping on GC is varied. Just avoid Georgetown on cruise ship days. Cafe Havana is good but Fernando's is disappointing. You will want to go off the hotel property for fine dining. GC is HOT temp wise during late July. You might want to look at the Leeward islands for a more temperate Summer climate. FYI: the caps ARE annoying.

I would go to Bermuda. It has a really cute town to shop in. There are some very nice hotels to stay in.
We went to GC this past summer and it was hot, hot, hot in June. It was a great trip and I loved it, but shopping is not great. I am not a shopper, but the town was small and I didn't see much there. I did not see the Westin, but the Ritz is the newest hotel and it was superb. We had dinner there. We stayed at the Marriott. I am sure you will l ike the Caymans. It is relaxing and great for watersports.

At that time of year, I would say go to Bermuda instead. It's beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The Westin in GC is not superb. Decent enough property outside, but they do lots of conventions. The inside was disappinting after seeing the outside. The beach may knock your socks off, but that's it.
