Where to go in Bahamas with 2 young kids?
 

I have 2 step daughters 5 and 10. We're thinking of taking them to the Bahamas for a week. We'd love something nice for us and still fun for the kids. They love to swim - pools and hubby and I love the ocean. An "All kids" type resort sort of scares me, very loud and no relaxation for the parents ya know. Any suggestions for a happy medium?

What about Atlantis?

Atlantis is the epitome of the "very loud and no relaxation for the parents" kinda place.
I'd recommend Our Lucaya on Grand Bahama Island, or the Radisson at Cable Beach. Both family oriented and fun, yet low keyed enough to relax.
There's also a ton of great places in the out islands if you don't need the casinos and club atmosphere. Great for family bonding.

yes the Atlantis sounds crazy! I'm sure my kids would love it but I would lose my mind, and I can't spare any ;)

We don't need clubs or anything - just relaxation, a few good places to eat, a nice pool for the kids, and that gorgeous carribean ocean :) I definitely want to look into the out islands. I'm a little overwhelmed with all my choices so I thought you could help narrow it down a little.

I've researched past threads and put a lot of info into a word doc for further review :)

In the Out Islands two places come to mind. Dolphin Beach Resort on Great Guana Cay, in the Abacos, and possibly Sammy T’s on Cat Island. Dolphin Beach gives you access to a fantastic beach, a pool, and somewhat of a variety of places to eat. Sammy T’s has a pool, a great little beach on a protected cove, and a nice restaurant. Other places to eat would necessitate renting a car on Cat Island. Both would be great Bahama experiences.

Love your idea of pasting threads into a Word document. I recently started doing that and it certainly makes organizing a trip easier.

The British Colonial Hotel on Downtown Bay Street might be a good option. It has 9 acres of lush grounds in the back, all private, and the security is good. I've seen members of the Royal Bahamian Police Force (RBPF) walk through often, just checking to make things are in order. It is enclosed in a fence. There's a nice pool by the outside Caribbean Patio Bar and only a step away is a beach and swimming in the Nassau Harbor. You could have a dive shop pick you up for snorkeling out in the offshore reefs (shallow). A walk downtown would be nice to Pirates Cove (the kids would like it) or Conch Fritters Restaurant (directly across the street). It is an age spread between 5 & 10 as far as different interests and skills, but the old "BC" would be relaxing for you, and you're right downtown to find things to do with the kids. I've seen families with young children at the British Colonial, with no crowds at all...very relaxing. Watch out for the complementary Bahama Mamas; they be strong, mon! But, fun to sip whilst you watch the kids swimming, well, you get my drift. Robert

we just got back from another week in nassau. wyndham has great pool and beach area and lots to do for kids and adults, or nothing at all. our 10 yr old hung out at the pool, and we were on the beach, but could stand up and see her, or go check in frequently. it was a blast. atlantis waayy to expensive and stressful. lol.

When we took our boys to the Bahamas, we stayed at the Comfort Suites across from Atlantis - much, much cheaper. This was my one son's FAVORITE vacation - he still asks when we're going back. The combo of all the water slides and the great beach is hard to beat.
