Where to go from Barbados
 

We are going for a two week vacation in Feb/March 2000. We have decided to spend a week in Barbados and would like to travel somewhere from there for the second week. Any ideas.

Barb - St. Lucia is nearby and offers a very different surrounding than Barbados. You can enjoy the beaches in Barbados and then the lush hills in St. Lucia. Another thought is Grenada which I haven't been to yet, but I hear it's beautiful. I also loved Martinique, but many people complain that the people aren't as friendly - I didn't experience that myself, but it seems to be a common theme. Anse Chastenet in St. Lucia is beautiful.

We spent a week at Petit St. Vincent in the Grenadines then 5 days on Barbados. Perfect mix. From Barbados it is a 45 min jump to Union Island where you have access to PSV, Palm Island, Mustique, Mayreau to name a few. Most are slow paced private romantic islands which for us balanced great with the more to do/see pace of Barbados. Enjoyed both greatly.

Have you considered chartering a yacht. This means you would be able to explore several different islands in your second week yet still from one secure base. Most yachts have all the luxurys of a modern hotel, air conditioning, T.V and video, telephone etc. A yacht I know personally is called Irene and is a 120ft classic ketch. She has five crew, all meals and drinks are included in the price and the food is excellent. If you like water sports they carry a 35hp inflatable with waterskiis, wakeboard, tube, kayaks, sailing dingy and dive gear including a compressor, tanks BCD's, masks and fins. The itinerary is left up to you so you can visit as many islands as feasible or just explore one, you can do as much as you want or as little. Any kind of activity or tour can be arranged.
