where to go for two women celebrating 50th birthday

Can anyone recommend a resort for two women without husbands or children to celebrate a big birthday for 3-4 nights in mid-Nov? We are looking for a really nice beach and a luxurious resort. Nightlife and food not so important.

Try looking into the Westin Rio Mar Beach, Golf Resort and Spa in Puerto Rico. Beautiful beach, wonderful staff and luxurious accommodations. The beds are the best!!

Cuisinart Resort in Anguilla. Anguilla's a very upscale island with some of the best beaches in the Caribbean, if not the world. Cuisinart is a beutiful, upscale resort with some of the best service we've ever had. Website is www.cuisinartresort.com.

I have to recommend the Half Moon in Montego Bay, Jamaica. You'll have a beautiful resort AND wonderful food. A "Take me to the Moon" package is all inclusive..including room service. There's usually some soft live jazz/pop at night. A quaint little shopping village is nearby and one of the bellmen{who are wonderful} will take you there by shuttle. I recommend a Hibiscus Suite. We have been three times and counting. Happpy Birthday, Girls.

Thanks for these suggestions. The Westin Rio Mar and Club Seaborne seem to have gotten mixed reviews, so I'm still looking. Cuisinart is a possibility. How is the beach at the Half Moon?

Cindy, there is a half mile strip of perfect beach in the main area and miles of other beaches to walk, but swimming isn't possible everywhere. If you look at their website, they also have wonderful pools. If you choose the Half Moon, please tell Angela and Elma on the Seagrape Terrace that their crazy friend who had her hair cornrowed and loves Audley's Scott's music and has the big, bald sweet husband sent you. We're from NC. I absolutely love this place, can you tell? There's a young man at the belldesk named Ralston. Give him a hug from his American "mama." He will take care of you and can be totally trusted. I get a little carried away just thinking of the Half Moon.

Twigsbuddy, your enthusiasm has made me very interested in choosing Half Moon. It sounds like the Jr. Suite with the Take Me to the Moon package might be right for us. A couple of questions: Do you know if the Jr Suites have an ocean view? Can you swim at the beach at the hotel? I assume there are umbrellas and lounge chairs at the beach, right? Thanks in advance for the info.

Cindy, See if there is a Hibiscus Suite available in the 100 area. Wonderful ocean views. Room service will set you up a lovely breakfast or lunch on your veranda. Best gazpacho I've ever tasted. You will be blown away by the quality of the food. Choose either the buffet or order a la carte. It's all included!! I've always seen people swimming in the main area. There is abundance of beachchairs, and if you choose a suite in the 100's area, you are steps away from everything your heart desires. You know, the Jamaicans drink a lot of coconut water and believe it purifies the system. Just to demonstrate their willingness to serve, Delbert, a sweet bartender brought me fresh coconuts from the market, chilled them, and cut them for me to drink. You'll love Delroy with his big smile and his big bass voice. Meet Mampi on the beach and let her braid your hair. I had mine done for the first time in my 57 years. I was hardly Bo Derek{smile}, but I loved it. All my friends at the Half Moon told me they'll have papers for me when we return to state that I'm Jamerican!! If you meet Mampi, tell her the lady who bought her all the "hummingbirds" recommended her. Then go have a hummingbird yourself. IYou must eat one night in Il Giardini. Ask for Gary to be your waiter. He's so quiet, but underneath, you'll discover quite a personality. I can even tell you about a wonderful lady to request for housekeeping, Beverly Brown. Tell her hello from her friend in NC. The barbecue is also fun. We were there last year just before Thanksgiving and had a wonderful time. Went back to celebrate the 4th of July and met Richard Branson of Virgin Airlines. He chose the Half Moon to launch his first thru flight from London. He and his parents stayed in a cottage in the half moon section. It's just so nice, beautiful grounds, nice spa, good food, and service. Just look at the website www.halfmoon.com or Expedia has a nice virtual tour. If you don't love it, I'll eat a conch shell.

Thanks, twigsbuddy. I'm going to try to book it and will report back.

Cindy, I know you will love it. My first name is Andrea. Tell Tisha or Lennox on the Terrace the sweet little lady from NC sent you. One little word of caution. When we were there in July there were a few people who got stung by jellyfish after a storm. Take some Burt's Bees Comfrey Ointment and it will take care of it, but I think it was only due to the weather. Ask Mampi {smile} if they're out. If you need a taxi, ask Urel or Ralston to arrange one for you. There is a footprint in the concrete right near the bellman's desk. Our last night, I had walked up to say goodby. Just slipped off my sandal and my foot fit perfectly. Silly, but I loved it. You can tell the people at the Half Moon have left handprints on my heart.
