Where to "Chill Out" in Puerto Rico after a Cruise?
My husband and I will be spending 10 glorious days for our anniversary (19th) without teenagers, elderly parents, dogs, or any other stressful distractions. Planning day one before the cruise at Intercontinental Hotel, Sept 18 (stayed at ESJ last visit 10 years ago, and loved that beach). September 19th thru 26th is the cruise, and they depart you from the ship early. We have all day Sunday and Monday to relax (flight is at 3:30 pm tues 9/28), and were considering the Hyatt Dorado Beach, since husband wants to golf, but $185 per night ($440 total inc taxes) seems steep just for a room). I tried priceline.com--they wouldn't budge on the price, either. We want away from San Juan, NO rental car, romantic, beach, etc. Any suggestions?? Please help, as we're leaving in 5 weeks. Thank you!

We are headed to Puerto Rico this winter for the first time and we are splitting our time between San Juan and Vieques - you may want to check out Vieques - it is a short flight (30 minutes) from San Juan. Very laid back atmosphere (but no golf courses) - a couple of hotels and several guesthouses. We are staying at Hacienda Tamarindo. The Hix Island House looks cool and the Inn on the Blue Horizon looked nice as well. Check out these websites www.enchanted-isle.com www.vieques-island.com and www.elenas-vieques.com

If far away from San Juan is what you desire, I would try El Conquistador. This time of year should be less expensive, then winter. It is a gorgeous property but I am sure is it would be no less than the Hyatt Dorado.

Thanks diann, I went to priceline and widened my search from just dorado to include "rio grande and humacao" and got El Conquistador for $107 per night!! (I was up to $155 for Hyatt Dorado and they wouldn't budge!) Palomino Island looks like just what I'm searching for in relaxation, and my husband can golf! Thanks again!
