Where or Where??
 

We suddenly have 8 to 10 days to vacation and are craving some sunshine.

We love the beach but get ansty after 30 minutes of sitting so we walk and wander. We do not like resort hotels but do like small and nice. We do not need fancy food but like good food. We would love to go somewhere we could hike, go to local haunts, maybe rent a jeep and do some off-roading and explore.
Any Suggestions? Thanks a bunch.

Thought I should add more. We have time off in mid July (soon, huh). Our truly favorite sites to visit are places that are very remote- India, Africa and the Mayan Route in Mexico. So, we normally really crave exploring. We thought maybe for time off now we want to go a little slower pace. I'm picturing us hiking in the rain forest and roaming villages. Am I on the right track?

Somewere safe with a huge variety of things to see and explore, and safe so you have no worries renting a car to explore at your own pace....Costa Rica ?

In the Caribbean, off the top of my head... Barbados, Puerto Rico
