Where did it go?

I saw an interesting thread just a minute ago which caught my eye - it was about a safety issue on one of the islands. I decided to read something else and then when I went back to read it, the message was gone. Where is it?

Perhaps the all-knowing censors removed the thread? But why? Maybe ad dollars were at stake?
Go to www.traveltalkonline.com Threads will be deleted or more commonly "locked" but not removed, but they will tell you WHY.

Real people who travel running their own message board. What a novel concept! Tons of info there and real people who run it, not a shadowy thing running in the background deleting things with no name and no explanation why.

Doug

traveltalkonline.com is good for SXM and BVI lovers, but not much good for other islands. Too bad the people running the board don't set it up to include the other islands, instead of just lumping them all in the General category.

Almost every web forum is monitored to some degree, and each one has its own reasons for censoring. Sometimes they remove or clean up a thread in response to complaints they get, justified or not. If you put a very negative post about St. Martin on traveltalkonline, or any other board, it might get censored. But that's their right, any board can decide what they want to allow, this is all free, so no need to get too paranoid about it.

Please give me a break about Traveltalkonline! Talk about censorship! I don't trust that board because it doesn't allow ANY negative posts, no matter how true or informative. Its "editor" is obviously more interested in pumping the island than informing travelers. I'd prefer to filter threads myself instead of letting Big Brother decide what I'm capable of reading.

I'm no big fan of traveltalkonline, it might more accurately be named StMartinTalkOnline.

However, I disagree with Ray that they don't show any negative posts. Here's an example of a violent robbery:

http://www.traveltalkonline.com/wwwt...collapsed&sb=5

Sometimes if you're on a particular island and then post, your response will show up first in the general region-wide category and you end up there, thinking you're still on the particular island you were on in the first place...so go back to the island you started with.

Also, if you can remember a particular phrase from the post that interested you, type that in in the search field and that may take you where you want to go.
Good luck.
