Where can we go where there are lots of pretty shells on the beach? We have been disappointed on some of our vacations because there are virtually none to be found.

Actually the best shelling is in the USA. Unless you snorkle and can get conchs in the water. Sanibel Island in Florida is probably the best. Some of the beaches in SC and NC are also good. <BR>

"Ditto" John's response (Sanibel Island ! ), but I would add that other areas on Florida's Gulf coast are good for shelling too. Never found shells in the Virgin Islans or Aruba like we did in Sanibel and Fort Meyers Beach.

Found shells galore in Anguilla, Shoal Bay Beach. They were everywhere - small, dainty, unique, very pretty little shells. I could have stayed out all day and collected. I brought a bunch home and glued some onto the edges of a picture frame in which I put a picture of Anguilla - so pretty. <BR> <BR>We were there for 3 nights, and there were a lot for 2 1/2 days, but the morning of the last day we were there, they were almost all gone, the tide had come in extra strong that night/morning and washed them all away. So, I'm not sure if there are always a lot there.

Where are the shells? On the sea-shore!!!!!!!!!

You won't find too many on the islands because of the reef that surrounds a lot of them.It stops a lot of stuff from washing up. We have found a few tiny ones and a lot of nice coral washed up on the beach, but shells are few and far between. If you want to find great shells, I vote for Sanibel too.

PS..check the area you are in. Some beaches do not allow you to even take shells that have washed up. If it's a protected area or national park type thing you may not remove anything.

Club Antigua - at the far end of the beach just in front of the Crab Hole beach bar (you could spend hours just sorting through the shells that wash up and collect on the beach). <BR> <BR>Akumal on the Mexican Riviera on the Yucatan/Caribbean side of Mexico. Not in the copious quantities as I found at Club A but different and interesting bits of coral and shells none the less! <BR>

This brings back memories of when I collected shells and pebbles as a kid. I probably still have some stashed away somewhere. <BR> <BR>What about Shell Island on the W. Coast of FL?

Of course, there are plenty of places in the Caribbean where you can SHELL-out plenty of money!
