Where are the cheap summer airfares?

This time last year one could fly to the Caribbean for $300-350. All I see are $500 fares. We are looking to go to St. Thomas (from Boston) in mid-August -- any suggestions?

Thanks.

Fares have been high due to 1) fewer routes this year due to cost cutting by airlines, 2) more demand due to Americans staying closer to home versus flying to Europe/Pacific etc, 3) some carriers have eliminated service to some islands altogether.

There were some out there - you've got to grab them as soon as you see them. Back in the spring US Airways was having a sale and I booked a flight from Albany NY to Puerto Rico for $320 (leaving this weekend).

i agree! it costs a fortune to fly out of boston to anywhere! there was a special on either united/american or us air to go from boston to grand cayman but i think you need to book by today. check out travelzoo netfares- i discovered it yesterday.

We usually get good air by buying a package from our travel agent.
