whats up in STT

heading to STT for the first time in late june for a surprise 30th birthday trip for my boyfriend. will have 7 days, and planning to ferry over to STJ and possibly another island at some point. will also have a car so transport is not a problem. what i'm curious about, though, is if anyone has been there recently and has suggestions on anything new and fantastic that should not be missed? any fantastic things that aren't new but still shouldn't be missed?

it's a small boat and books way in advance. now would not be too soon to make a reservation.
dinner at havana blue at the marriott morning star is outstanding & very romantic.
another fav or mine is the blue moon cafe at secret harbour.
the view at the top of the tram at havensight is extra nice at sunset with a cocktail.

Can't comment on STT. It has been more than 20 years since I was thre last, but we were in STJ about a year ago. Loved Honeymoon beach. Hired a boat and captain for a trip to BVI's. Loved it! Be sure to inquire about fuel cost. It added an additional $350.00 to the cost. Love, loved Uncle Joe's BBQ. Don't be deterred by its appearance. The food is delicious and the staff memorable.

Try Pirates Penny/Stormy Petrel for a day trip to BVI. I really love Uncle Joe's!!! We always joke that the help, his daughter and nieces, are forced laborers. :-) They are pleasant to customers but do "cut their eyes" at Uncle Joe.

Not sure about anything recent or new. We went in 2005. We did an Island tour of St. Thomas and St. John, went to Coki Beach and did the Sea Trek and spent the afternoon, went to Paradise Point one evening and Duffy's Love Shack. We took an all day boat trip to the BVI's on the New Horizon II. We didn't make it to Magen's Bay Beach. We went shopping in the dowtown area. It was a nice trip, but didn't make our return list.

If you like history, St. Thomas is rich with historical sites. You eat and shop in buildings that are hundreds of years old. There is a bookstore in Havensight that carries lots of local history books. That's a great thing to do downtown when no ships are in. Good shopping on those days. The Red Hook is great for night life. (Take a cab) Duffy's, Caribbean Saloon, etc. If you have a passport, Limnos is about $100 for the day, but that's breakfast, lunch, and open bar all day. Cat with bathroom takes you all through Drake's Passage up to The Baths at Virgin Gorda. You really get "the lay of the land". Or, sail to Jost Van Dyke - Soggy Dollar, Ivan's, Foxy's. The National Park service is great on STJ for hikes, underwater snorkel, etc.
Paradise Point for view, Shipwreck tavern for burgers. Marriott for breakfast buffet. Glays Cafe in town for lunch. Driving is slow, but easy - only four main road and the colored starfish guide you if you ar map challenged!
