Spending six days at Sandals Emerald Bay resort next week - first time so very excited. Anyway on return flight from Georgetown airport we will have six hour layover at Nassau airport and thus we are looking for suggestions for things to do during this layover. Probably not worth effort to rent a car but certainly willing to cab wherever we decide to go. It will be Saturday morning and early afternoon if that matters. Appreciate your suggestions.

Have you looked into the possibility of using the Sandals in Nassau as your stop-over? Could you perhaps buy a daypass for a reasonable price? Sandals is relatively close to the airport, so it's a convenient and easy taxi ride. Nassau is further away and has a lot of traffic.

Atlantis also has daypasses for Aquaventure and changing rooms with showers, so that might also be a possibility.

Otherwise, Nassau is a huge cruise-ship destination that has a lot of day-trip possibilities depending on your interests. Or you can just shop at the straw market and in downtown Nassau.

Or you could spend the day at the British Colonial Hilton in town (it has a beach).

Thanks Doug. We weren't really thinking of more beach or water time, after having spent six days there already. It is the "day trip possibilities" you refer to that I am asking about - recognizing a six hour layover probably means 3, maybe 4, hours of truly free time.

I have to say that most of the excursions on Nassau are going to be on the water, so perhaps you'll want to concentrate on land-based sights.

There's John Watling's Distillery tour (free, and you can have lunch or buy drinks there ... they have a nice porch or outdoor patio for lounging---but by design no Wi-Fi). You could easily kill 2 hours there if you want, and then perhaps walk down the hill into town for some shopping and sightseeing. The art museum (nearby) is just down the street and is very interesting. There's also Ardastra Gardens.

A lot of companies organize island tours that hit the major historic sights, but these are also quite easily done on your own. (I'm assuming you'll be able to check your luggage through.)
