What to do on St. Kitts cruise visit?

My husband and I are in our late 50's/early 60's on our first-ever cruise on the Windspirit visiting St. Kitts for the day in early March. We love to snorkel, swim, walk the beach and would like your advice on where the best place is to go to do that -- Frigate Bay, South Friars, Cockleshell, or where is the best snorkeling you can get to from the beach?

Is St. Kitts an island where you would recommend a snorkel trip that would take us to better snorkeling off shore? Our other ports of call will be Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, St. Barths and St. Martin - which are best for snorkeling?

Also please share with us what non-beach/snorkel things you think are "don't miss this" experiences on St. Kitts. Do you recommend ship excursions or going on you own and if so, how to plan for that?

Thanks for your help.

The don't miss attraction on St. Kitts is Brimstone Hill Fortress. www.brimstonehillfortress.org

I would think your best snorkeling would be on your visits to the Virgin Islands. You can snorkel from the beach in St. Kitts at the beaches you name but it will not be great. The best snorkeling is at Shitten Bay where the catamaran trips take you.

It is easy to arrange your own excursion. Leave the port area and talk to any of the taxi drivers waiting outside. Most are good guides and will take you to Brimstone Hill and also to one of the Southern Peninsula beaches. Let them know when you want to be picked up from the beach and they will return for you.
