What to do on Eleuthra?

We are going on the Grand Princess Cruise line in early May and one of the Ports is at Princess Cays which I believe is on Eleuthra Island in the Bahamas. It sounds like Princess Cays is mainly a beach area so I am wondering if it is worthwhile to explore the rest of the island of Eleuthra for that day. We really love snorkeling and would love to find some prime snorkeling areas. Also are there any places to get fresh conch? We really enjoyed visiting Fish Fries the last time we went to Paradise Island. Thanks!

Eleuthera is a pretty sleepy island, 110 miles long so not sure which settlement you are docking close to, probably Govenours Harbour or James Cistern.

You could get a car to taxi or take the tour up to Harbour Island for the day and do a bit of site seeing, it's a very small island, with an amazing 3 mile beach. Lots of good restaurants, the best hamburger in the world at Tingum Village and the best conch fritters and cracked conch at Angela's.

Tarpun Village would also be another fun area, some shopping and a couple of artists and a cute restaurant or two right on the water. The beaches there are spectacular and sometimes you will be the only person on the beach for miles.

If you could tell me just where the boat is docking I might be of a bit more help.

Have a great time.

Princess Cay is a private island used by the cruise line. It has lounges, consession stands, souveniers, straw market etc. It is not attached to the main island, and I don't know how you would get from one island to the other.
You are brought to the island by tenders, right off the ship.
Of course, if you do manage to get on to the main island, I'm sure you could find fresh conch, and fritters whereever you dock.
Actually some of the cruise lines have stoped at Eleuthera last year, I think 3 times. It is a new destination for at least one cruise line, and Eleutehra is starting to gear up for regular stops there.

Cara you might check with your cruise line as to exactly what the stops will be for your trip. Let us know if Eleuthera is a stop and we can get you all the info you might need.

Have a great time.

Thanks for your help. I think Tamara is correct. I thought Princess Cays was just a beach area but they said it is their private island. Guess we'll find out what options we have to leave the island when we get there. :)

If it is Princess Cays, I don't think it is off Eleuthera, but I may be incorrect. IF so it is a private island and the cruise ships do dock there so you can snorkle around and relax. There is also food available and a few amenities.

As I said earlier, ships are now docking off Eleuthera, which is new as of last year and a big success on the island, so I don't know if your ship will stop there, so you might check.

Have a great time.
