Cheers Friends.<BR>I live in Haiti for 14 years. Now, I currently live in the United States. Haiti is a wonderful place to go on vacation, as opposed to what the majority thinks. It's a psychological, mental wash up that prevents many willingful, honest, haiti thirsty people from visiting and vacationing there. Its the bias and prejudices of others that prevent Haiti from advancing. A french dominated island, not english, and over 90% African decent, Did You Really Expect to hear any positive publicity for Haiti.<BR>Yes, Some places dont have 24hr electricity, and some provinces do, for example, Jacmel, haiti have 24 hr electicity services. And, yes, there are ghettos...What we called the Roman Empire today have ghettos, why dont we hear about it when it comes to touristic. Violence in haiti went down 14% since 1997 according to President Aristide. <BR>Every single person in Haiti is a hard working person, and they all have jobs, working wether as a merchant or using some trading skills they learned. So for those who want to compare Haiti with Somalia, and Bangladesh, tehy might want to open their eyes and re-research their history. <BR>Haiti is rated as the poorest country in the western hemisphere, why? We barely get any financial aids from the international community. From time to time when we receive aids, we get it by the millions while others get it by the millions. It's the poorest country yet, terrorist operations are being organised and are being funded in Haiti to overthrow not The Lavalas gorvernment but all of haiti's gorvernment (unless of course it's what they [The Funders] want.) <BR><BR>Haiti is not somewhere where someone in their right mind would go on vacation, but it is where someone with a strong and clear head would go for a wonderful time. <BR><BR>Thanks.<BR><BR>Kenol David, Chairman<BR>http://www.MahoganyCentral.com

Some close relatives were posted to Haiti a few years ago (US Gov't). They had lived in many countries. They found Haiti very friendly and had no problems at all. Nothing but pleasant memories.

Hi Kenol,<BR><BR>How about a couple of suggestions for small resorts on beautiful beaches with 24/7 electricity, realizing that there are occational outages. I don't want or expect luxury accomidations but I do want clean and safe. The ideal beach would have nice fine sand, plenty of shade under palm trees and some good snorkeling.<BR><BR>The resorts would have good food on site and/or a few other resturants within a short taxi ride or walk. <BR><BR>A few funky beach bars within walking distance would be nice too.<BR><BR>I'd also like to see & possibly buy some local art, paintings, masks, carvings or the like. <BR><BR>Is there a specific area where tourists mainly go? Are there any links to resorts on the internet, I havn't looked.<BR><BR>What language is predominate? Fill us in on a few things, maybe answer some questions that I havn't asked as well.

C-mon, how bout some info! Where do we go in Haiti? Where is the best place on a beach to stay?

Hello there.<BR>I didnt expect to get the replies so soon. So let me take this time to thank you folks for your time and your intell. Joe, glad to hear your relatives have nothing but pleasant memories of Haiti. Perhaps soon you should have pleasant memories of your own. <BR>&lt;Openmind&gt; Very interesting reply and remarks. There are many places in Haiti where you can go. While browsing the web, I came across one interesting site that has very good info on travelling not only to Haiti but to many other islands. I reviewed the facts on the site and some of them are old, but they have relying info about the hotels, sightseeing, beaches (clean ones) and many more. its: www.netcarib.com/haiti<BR>The friendliest province there, my favorite is Jacmel. They have 24/7 electricity, many activities, nice nightclubs, (yakimo & la crevette)... its nice beaches for example, Raymond-des-bains. its known for its fabulous carnival, its artisanas, nice roads, ect. People are very friendly, a nice cathedral (St Jacques & St Phillipes). If you had to compare it to any cities, New Orleans, LO, USA, would be the closest to Jacmel. I hope that tells alot.<BR>One more comment, its really hard finding touristic information on travelling to haiti.
