What's the difference between For San Cristobal & El Morro?

We have time to tour one of these post cruise. What is the difference between these two fort's? Which is best?

El Morro is larger and more popular. They are not far from each other, no reason you can't do both, as well as Old San Juan on your own!

Marbi, I agree with Ron, there is no reason why you can't do both on your own. In any case, El Morro is a much bigger fortification than San Cristobal and I definetely think it is a must do. The old city of San Juan is very tourist frienldy and contained. It will be very hard to get lost and not be able to get back to your cruise on time. Your cruise will anchor in one of two areas, the main port area in the south part of Old San Juan (a very accessible walk or trolley ride to the sights and shops) or at the Isla Grande area (a very accessible and short cab ride to the sights and shops). Enjoy your trip!

El Morro is a battleship. San Cristobal is a cruiser. Go to the former if it can be only one. The view os SJ harbor from the top of the fort makes it all worth it. Enjoy!

Thanks for the replies! hat's exactly what I needed to know. Both are offered as post criuse excursions, before our flight home. Normally we would go on our own, but as a post cruise excursion, our luggage is dealt with. We will take El Morro. Thanks!

I just read on one of these threads that the Barraccino (sp?) restaurant in Old San Juan will hold luggage for the afternoon. (It's the place that claims to have invented the pina colada). Old San Juan is so small, you could take a taxi here, leave your luggage, have lunch if you like, and easily explore El Morro and the rest of OSJ on your own.
