What ISN'T a Spring Break destination??

I'm having trouble picking a destination in March without having to run into Spring Break crowds. We didn't think it would be so difficult to find one.

We thought of the Keys; US Virgin Islands; Puerto Rico.

Unfortunately it has to be within the U.S.; this was a last-minute date change and our passports won't get to us in time.

We'd like heat; beaches (swimming isn't a req); a little hiking or walking; some decent food; a little nightlife. Our budget is mid-range, maybe under $2,000 for 3 nights and we're flying out of JFK.

Thanks again all, this board is amazing!

I would not do the Keys as that can have loads of spring breakers. If you do something more upscale in Puerto Rico or USVI then you will have less chance of spring breakers. Anything that offers cheap packages or quad occupancy, etc. willl tend to have more spring break kids.
I would suggest PR, stay in San Juan, somewhere on the beach like the Marriott and spend some time or evenings in Old San Juan for nightlife and great food!

Try the upscale/luxe Horned Dorset Primaverra on the west coast of PR at Agadilla/Rincon (fly into San Juan, puddle jumper fly into above). No passports, no springbreakers (surf's flat so Dec-Jan surf crowd has left, but the small seafood restaurants are great. Not big on nightlife, but other than barscene, neither are the Virgin Islands. Culebra and Vieques off PR other side offer much of the same if more laid-back, less high-style.

Have you tried a passport service? They're great at expeding passports, visas, etc.

Three days on $2000 is definitely doable in either Puerto Rico or the USVI. JFK also has direct flights to St. Thomas. I'm not sure how "un" Spring Break these places are, but they're bound to be less so than Florida or say, Cancun.

I would go to St. Croix - we never experience crowds there and that's why we love it! (And no passport is needed but you will need a birth certificate with a raised seal and a drivers license) We stay at the Carambola Beach Resort. It's a lovely location but be sure to rent a car as it's about 25 minutes from Christiansted. Besides, exploring the entire island is great.

if you're serious about no crowds, then Bonaire is perfect for that.Maybe even try out scuba diving.

beth48 has a good point about st croix...

carambola is a big resort...you want no spring break crowd go to Cane Bay Reef Club next door to Carambola.. you get: heat; beaches (swimming isn't a req); a little hiking or walking; some decent food; a little nightlife.

tuxedocat has it right too....but go for smaller less resort in PR near old san juan. but noisier....

still recommend st john Gallows Point
