Greetings Beachbound,
You’ve certainly got a lot of information to digest. As usual, Tweedy gets to heart of the matter. I have been visiting the Caribbean for many years and the people of New Providence Island, and it’s capital - Nassau, are warm and friendly. Anyone who judges an island and/or its population based on what he/she sees “on the dock” gets what they deserve. There are many great places on New Providence Island, and like any other island/country, you have to look for them. Also, the out islands of the Bahamas are wonderful jewels, each with its own unique characteristics.
Rich’s comparison of Atlantis to Las Vegas is interesting. I’m an ol’ fart who had the opportunity to “gunk hole” the Bahamas in an 85 foot gaff rigged schooner, compliments of a college roommate’s rich Dad. We used to tie up at the Nassau Yacht Club and skull across the channel to Hog Island in inner tubes, trailing our beer in fruit sacks. There were no bridges, no Atlantis, no casinos, just a great beaches. But times change. Paradise Island (nee-Hog Island) still has great beaches. You’ll just have to digest all this information, consider the prejudices/predispositions of the posters and make your own decision. Eleuthera and Harbor Islands are still my favorite choices in the Bahamas.
Cheers,
Captain
