What is the best AI in Dominican Republic for Adults

My husband and I (late 40's) would like to explore vacation possibilities on DR. We've never been before and would appreciate input as to the best AI's on the island. Rooms/decor/property, food and entertainment are all important to us. Thanks for the help.

We love Secrets Excellence in Putna Cana. It is an adults only all inclusive resort. The rooms have a huge jacuzzi in them and all have balconies or patios. The pool is fantastic and the beach is great. The food and service were very good. As far as entertainment, some of the shows were a bit corny, but we definitely were entertained! They have a very small casino and a great spa.. There are always activities going on if you wish to participate, or you can just get on your lounge chair and relax.

I have to agree, Secrets was great. It is for adults only. The food was probably some of the best I have had on an AI trip. It certainlyh elps that there are nobuffetmeals for dinner - everything is a la carte, though there was a sushi bar in the Chinese restaurant and a pasta buffet at the Italian one.

The ONLY draw back is that it is approximately an hour and 15 minutes from the airport, so any day excursions you book are at LEAST that much of a ride away. I would have no problem staying on the resort all week!

The pool/pool bar was pretty busy. There is a bit of jockeying done for chairs. We used our jacuzzi tub daily!

I have to say this was definitely one of our more enjoyable trips.

There are a few "adults only" resorts in DR. The two basic locations would be Puerto Plata or Punta Cana. We have been to both areas and if you want the beautiful white sand beaches then go for Punta Cana. Outside of the beaches and the hotels there is not much else in Punta Cana. No real town to explore but both areas do have other activities to do to either meet the locals or do all sorts of water activities. Personally we just liked the idea of relaxing on the beach. If you want a more varied landscape then go to Puerto Plata but the sand is more brown then white as it faces the Atlantic. For in-depth reviews there are a number of 5 star rated locations in both areas. The key if you want to avoid kids is to try to avoid x-mas, spring break or easter. Try debbiesdominicantravel.com for reviews

PS - Unlike Mexico you do not have the persistent vendors bothering you all the time. They are around but they almost seemed polite!
