What about Varadero, Cuba

We are planning a vacation to Varadero. Who has
hints on hotel free restaurants with a cuban
flair? Other tips recommended,
e.g. fairprizing shops, best car renting firm etc.
Is the "Tropicana" show of Varadero its money
worth?

I have stayed 3 weeks in Cuba, but I have not been in Varadero, which is a typical tourist site. I therefore cannot answer all your questions. Ordinary cubans do not have access to Varadero. I recommend that you rent a car and go to e.g. Santa Clara, Trinidad and the bay of Pigs and Havana. As far as I know there is only the state car rental agency. Have a car reserved as early as possible; they are relatively scarce. Theft, prostitution and begging are widespread in Cuba but it is no problem if you are aware and firm (but polite). Violence is no problem in Cuba. The people are friendly and well educated. The police is corrupt, but do not make trouble if you behave within the law. Have a nice trip!

We too are planning a trip to Varedero, we have it booked for the end of March. I went to the public library and found quite a few up to date books on tourism in Havana and Veradero, you might be able to find the answers to your questions there! E-mail me if you are going around the same time, we might cross paths there!

was at tryp Siesta last feb. Really enjoyed the hotel and Varadero in general. There is not alot of shopping and the night life is not like what you find in Mexico etc. would recommend it if your looking to get away. want a quietier holiday and don't plan on doing alot of shopping. cigars, and rum really cheap. we loved it but thats what we were lokking for.

I was in Cuba last Feb. The nightlife can be fun if you go where the locals go. The Tropicana show was great, after the show if you stick around, the place fills up with locals and the dancing/partying begins. A word of advice, bring your own toilet paper to the Tropicana as NONE is supplied in the bathrooms. Drinks are also quite expensive running around $6-7 US each. The admission includes your first drink.

MESSAGE: WE STAYED AT MELIA LAS AMERICAS IN MARCH OF 96. THE HOTEL WAS FANTASTIC AND WE HAD A MEAL PLAN FOR $99.00. NEXT DOOR AT DUPONT MANSION FROM 5-7:00 EVERY DAY THE DRINKS ARE TWO FOR ONE. I THINK THE DRINKS WERE APPROX. $3.50 AT THE HOTEL IF YOU HAD TO PLAY. A TOUR TRIP TO HAVANA IS WELL WORTH IT. ENJOY!

I will be travelling to Cuba in April arriving in Havana but would like to know of a good place to go and relax for a few days where you will not be bothered too much by hustlers.

Hello

I am a Cuban who has been living in Mexico for 6 years now. I found that most of you are planing to travel to Cuba and want to find the best options.

At the moment in my country there’s not a clear vision of what it means good tourist services. Just some people seams to know the meaning of this work.

If you want some advises on people to look at before going to Cuba let me know. They can find you cheapest houses than hotels with all the services, rent-cars, good places where to goo and all at the measure of your needs.

We're on our way to Veridero but will certainly try to get out and about for a few days. Any info on where to rent a vehicle or hire a car and driver for the day would be appreciated. We'd would like to see what other accomodations are available and at what cost (ie near Trinidad or Cienfuegos). Any info would be helpful. Thanks. Rod

You can rent a car from the state rental company. It certainly has many offices in Varadero and Havana. Just ask for the office in your hotel. Cars can be scarce so it is best to ask early in you holiday (or in advance). I recommend Santa Clara, Trinidad, Playe del Este, Old Havana and the Bay of Pigs. Driving is very pleasant in Cuba. Have a nice trip.

HI Lisa, we are also heading to Varadero. We will be there from the 6th of April to the 20th. We are staying in the "Club Tropical" in the Apartment section. We are going with another couple. Where are you staying? Is your holiday also 2 weeks? Are you doing any pre-tanning? We are using tanning beds.
If you care to reply could you title your reply "Attn. Doug" as I share this address with 12 co-workers and there is no privacy. Thanks Doug.

Hi Lisa,
My husband and I are going to Varadero next week. We've been to Cuba twice before but this is our first trip to Varadero. I was interested in your posting because I've been to the library as well as on the web in preparation for our holiday. One site that I've found useful is Varadero Practical Guide. I can't find the site name or number but I can tell you how to get there since you're on the Wave. I used the Excite search engine and searched Varadero Practical Guide. The top match is Virtual Voyages (also good). If you click on More Like This, you'll find the Practical Guide. Have a super trip!
