Hi Shirley! We went to the Westin Rio Mar in June '99. Weather doesn't vary much between October and June - it will be very warm in the daytime (high 80's). The beach was very nice - very wide and long (great for walking) and there's really nothing else on that beach except for the resort. We rented a kayak for a couple of hours and kayaked to a little cay, but other than that we just vegged out. Since it was June there were a LOT of kids and teens, I would imagine there will be less in October. The pool is great and that's where most of them would hang out. The food at the Italian restaurant was excellent, but we didn't care much for the main buffet. We liked the resort a lot. After the Rio Mar, we stayed at the Westin St. John, and we thought the Westin Rio Mar was much better than the one in St. John (although the island of St. John itself was gorgeous).

You can easily visit El Yunque rainforest and walk the trail to the cascade. Very neat. There might be tours from Rio Mar since it is so close. If you rent a car, you could visit Luquillo beach, or do a day-trip by ferry from Fajardo to Culebra (to experience an absolutely gorgeous beach). Also, if you're interested in history and/or shopping, you could go to Old San Juan and visit one of the colonial forts and have lunch in one of the many colonial houses with inside patios. Any other questions, just ask.
