Wedding in Bermuda

Well - it finally happened! My fella and I are going to tie the knot. We want to do this out of town and have been looking at a wide variety of places. I was in Bermuda in 1985 with my daughter and just loved it, so I'm thinking this might be the place. I've looked into the legal requirements and they are wonderfully simple compared to some of the places we've looked into.

Here are my questions: Do you know of anyone who got married in the Registry Office? There is just going to be my fella and I - no guests and we're going to ask the Registry Office to supply the two witnesses. My only hang up about not using a wedding service is that we would want to hire a photographer to take a few photos and/or someone to make a videotape of the ceremony. Can anyone come up with a recommendation? I've read through some of the wedding posts here on the forum, but it seems most people have used the wedding planner option.

We haven't even started to look into places to stay as we are just gathering information at this point.

Thanks much!
Dale

oh dale please don't go to the islands to get married and then do it in an office. even if no one is coming a nice spot on the beach maybe palm trees in background

or in a garden with gorgeous bougnainvillea

will be so much more wonderful, memorable, romantic and make better photos.
planner can suggest locations, find the flowers you want, etc.
note bermuda can be quite cool in winter.
hopefully cmcfong a/or txgirlinbda will see this and can suggest some specific locations and a good photog.

I agree. Even if it just the two of you, you should get married on the beach. Bermuda is beautiful and romantic. It will be cooler in the winter months so keep that in mind. The other issue is that you can't rent a car and drive around the island to explore. You either need to take the bus (which is quite efficient), cabs (expensive) or rent a scooter. So keep that in mind before you decide on Bermuda.

Wow! Yes, these photos are great, but neither of us wants a beach wedding. We're from Atlantic Canada and not to brag, but beaches are sort of ho-hum for us. Bermuda is a lovely place for people like us who love historic sites and lush greenery. Also, bermuda is only 2 and a quarter hours from where we live, so it would be a nice spot to slip away to with little fuss. Re: the weather...We're not too concerned about it as we're looking at April when it should be just starting to get warm.

Yes, I know from my previous experience in Bermuda that transportation can be an issue, so we've already taken that into account.

Thanks so much for these comments - they're much appreciated!

So...can any of the Bermuda experts recommend a photographer? The pictures would be taken at the Registry office and at some of the sites he/she would recommend. There are seveal Bermuda photographers advertising online, but it would be nice to get some recommendations.

Thanks guys,
Dale

Dale, what's your budget for the photographer? I will happily get you the number of the one who took our wedding photos if he's within your price range, and I will ask friends if they've got any other recommendations. (If you want a preview - Youtube search for Michelle and Andy's Wedding in Bermuda).
Please, please reconsider a cermony at the Registrar's office. It's a dreary place full of dreary people. (After six trips there over three months dealing with wedding and birth certificates, I would be happy to never go again.)
Bermuda has a plethora of non-denominational ministers who will come to your location of choice to perform a brief, basic ceremony. I will help you find one. I'm sure if you're staying at a hotel of any size, they've got someone who could put you in touch with one as well. I will give you a list of pretty and/or historic non-beach locations. Shoot, give me enough notice and I'll bring a friend along and be your witness. But please don't do this at the Registrar's office!

Hi txgirlinbda: You are sooo kind to want to help out. I guess you have convinced us that the Registry office is not the place to go. Wow! I didn't realize that the ministers would come out to a specific place. This is starting to sound pretty good.

I have to run all this past my guy. As I said in my iniital post, we are checking out a variety of places and he has a few ideas himself. Hmmmmm. However, from what I've been reading on these posts, it wouldn't take too much for me to say "yes" to Bermuda.

Can I get back to you on this? We are both working long hours and will need time to digest all this wonderful information. In the meantime, I'll check out your youtube posting.

Thanks again and you're just terrific!

Dale

Bermuda would be a wonderful choice. I love going in the off season, in fact December is one of my favorite times. I would avoid Feb and March.
For all things wedding in Bermuda, txgrlinbda is your go to person. She lives there and she was married there. Her wedding pictures from the Reefs are gorgeous.
I noticed your post to DickensDad's recos. Let me add Watercolours and Granaway to the list of properties you might want to consider. Both are small and are owned by serious gourmets. Watercolours is the more elegant of the two.
Best wishes on your wedding,GrammieDale.

Thanks again txgirlinbda! I had a look at your Youtube clip and I have to say that I had tears in my eyes. You two look so happy.

I'm off to Florida next week to spend time with my brother (no boyfriend on this trip) and hopefully with the help of my little laptop, I can check out all these places and the other cities/countries that I'm supposed to be looking at too.

You guys are just terrific. I normally post on the European board where I have gotten and provided a lot of advice, but I have to say, you folks here are the greatest!

Thanks for all your help which will be invaluable when it comes time for us to pick a date and place. Sigh....

Back soon,
Dale

txgirlinbda , I am interested in getting married in Bermuda and it will be just me and my finance'. The only thing is I may be on a cruise ship. I have been to Bermuda many times and just love to cruise there.I have lots of things to look at and see what would be the best way. I would like to know about a photographer in the area and you talked about someone coming to us for the ceremony. Do you live in bermuda? Thanks for any infor you can give me.

I haven't checked them out recently, but BERMUDATOURISM.COM has always been a good source of information or contact your travel agent, if you're using one. We were there for our 10th anniversary and loved it!
