Wedding/honeymoon with a twist

Hi all,

I am going blind searching the net and am hoping your wisdom can help guide me. My fiance and I are planning our wedding in either the 2nd week of June or Thanksgiving week...varying depending on what I can work out with the ex for child care and school schedule. (Any suggestions on the better time, June or November?) My 8-year old son will be there for a few days for the wedding, but will return to the states with my mom after the wedding. We will have a few friends/family joining us for a few days.

(It seems alot of the honeymoon posts are for couples only..which is the twist)

I have no clue where to go...started to look at Jamaica, but the more I learn, the more I like all the other islands also..I've never been to the Caribbean. I don't have a preference over all-inclusive or not.

I need somewhere that kids can go, but won't be a nuisance once my kid leaves (my fiance will not pack up and change hotels and our honeymoon begins after the wedding). I want enough activity that we won't get bored. I don't want anything over-commercialized either, otherwise I'd stay in the States. Oh, and my fiance won't fly on a puddle jumper to get there..is that removing alot of options? I also prefer a luxury-type resort.

(and i did try to look up "Beaches", but beaches in a caribbean discussion brough up an awful lot of posts....but I am NOT committed to the all-inclusive...completely open to any and ALL suggestions)

Thank you!

We have two groups ofwedding/honeymoon guests with similar family/guest/preference needs who are being married at UNFORGETTABLE in Treasure Beach on the South Coast and DRAMBUIE ESTATE at King's Gate/Content outside Montego Bay on the North Coast of Jamaica -- both this . See jamaicaescapes.com for the properties;we also have wedding co-ordinators on island.

You might look into the Blue Waters Beach Resort, a 4-star luxury resort in Antigua. Free wedding ceremonies with a 7+ night stay plus there are children's activities.
You can read traveler's comments at Where2Stay.com or just type out Where2Stay in Google. There should be a website link at Where2Stay or just type out Blue Waters Beach Resort, Antigua.
There is an all inclusive plan available. This resort is known for the friendliness of its staff--seems ideal.
We have traveled to Antigua twice and found there was a lot to see and do--good luck.

I agree with the above poster. We really enjoyed Antigua on our last vacation. I don't know how much you are looking to spend but check out Jumby Bay. It is all inclusive and located on a private island. It is a family resort (i.e. not adults only).

Good luck and congrats!

Hi,

Yes I understand your dilema, so many options and islands.

How about Romora Bay on Harbour Island for you and your hubby. You could do the wedding there, and put the guests up at other locations on the island, so you have some private time.

As far as getting there, you can fly into Nassau on a "real" plane and take the fast ferry over the BoHengy so here are a few websites to look at and if you need any other info, just ask.

www.briland.com - info about the island.
www.ramorabay.com
www.bahamasferries.com

The island is small but beautiful and very safe, so you can be out and about any time of the day and night. Kids are welcome on island, and you won't have to worry about them having some time to themselves.

There are 2 dive/snorkle companies on island, as well as off island adventures, so you could take the whole gang to a deserted island for a day of sun and snorkle with a picnic lunch.

There are several nice restaurants on island for parties and just about the whole island heads for a drink at the end of day to watch the sun set.

Have a great time.

Thank you so much for all your suggestions! This really helps me focus my search. Are there any suggestions on which time of the year is better..mid-June or end of November?

Thanks!
