Weather on St. John vi

We are going to St.Johns vi in may not realizing its the rainy season, should I be concerned or is it just those little hour rains then sunny?

Typically rain, when it does come is in the form of very brief, fast moving widely scatter showers - lasting minutes rather than hours. It's not unusual for it to sprinkle in one area and be bright sun 1/4 mile away. All day rains are rare. Leave the umbrella at home - pack plenty of sun block.

Have to chime in here. According to a St John local, there is a period of rain that usually happens on St John. In April-May, and October-November, there will usually be a stretch of about 10 days of rain. Having said that, late October to the beginning of December were quite rainy. We left on Thanksgiving and had alot of rainy weather which doesn't "usually" happen. A couple of the storms were torrential with thunder and even "sideways" rain. My point being, you never know what mother nature will bring! I did not let it ruin my trip. We went to the beach even if it was overcast. Like RoamsAround said, usually they are passing showers, and many times were. But, we also used our time there to explore the island on rainy days. We did the Cinnamon Bay Loop Trail, Caneel to Honeymoon to Solomon trail, and also Annaberg Ruins and found the old schoolhouse and old Danish road. A couple of firsts for me after many trips. I would not stress over the weather and go with the flow. Nothing you can do about it anyway!

Any of the North Shore beaches are great, hard to say a must do. Although if you are a newbie, Trunk Bay is stunning albeit a bit crowded by St John standards. I love Maho!!!

If you rent a dinghy, be sure to check the water conditions and remember that at most if not all beaches, you cannot bring them to the beach and will have to haul yourself back in from the water. Have fun :).

Or just do Trunk Bay first in the morning. We found we were frequently the first people on the beach in the mornings (somehow we just wake up earlier knowing we're on vacation) and could enjoy hours of snorkeling and then just leave for lunch when the tour groups arrived and go to a different beach in the afternoon.
