weather in Carribbean in January

We decided we may be able to slip in an extra hol. this year. Christmas period too expensive, but what about early January - what is the weather likely to be like - if we got a good cruise deal would the seas be calm or maybe rough at that time of year? If we decide on Island, where would you recommend for a nice quiet place, but not too isolated, like to sightsee.

In the past ten years we've had weather that generally was quite warm, usually in the eighties, but the usual temp is in the seventies, with occasional rain. The climate varies with the island, the eastern islands and southern islands getting less rain than the Caymans. Aruba is the driest in the winter but isn't lush or visually attractive. We prefer St John which is a pretty good compromise. St Thomas would be a good place to start since there is a lot of night life, and it's easy to take day trips to other islands. A cruise is another great way to sample more than one location. We've tried numerous isnlands and frankly enjoyed all of them. Have a good trip.

We don't have seasons in the Caribbean, so, in what you know as winter it might get slightly cooler than in the summer, but for people used to cool weathers it's nothing, just about the 80's. Puerto Rico is always a great choice beacuse of the variety, if you're looking for that colonial-island experience there's Old San Juan, if you feel like shopping there are plenty of big malls (Plaza las Americas), if you'd like to stay at a private hide-away, there are some great guest houses (highly recommendaul Julienn's Beach House at Guanica). Is a 2 1/2 hours drive from the airport but the beaches at Gilligan's Island and Punta Ballena are excellent, and there's a LOT of sightseeing throughout the highway on your way to it.
Good Luck on your search!

I disagree that Aruba isn't visually attractive. I am a big fan of the desert and think Aruba is beautiful. It also has very lush areas. Weather in January average daily high 88 degrees.

We went to Turks and Caicos once right after New years Day. The weather was 80's with a cooler breeze in the p.m. Depends where you are coming from but from the 30 degree weather it was warm enough for us. We also went on a cruise last year late Jan. and loved all the islands. PR is was very warm, the further south the more warm it becomes. The water was pretty smooth sailing. Barbados was one island we went to, and it was wonderful and so was the water.
