Aside from the risk of hurricanes (or, more likely, the aftermath of a storm in September), many people regard early November to be prime time for the Bahamas. The water is very comfortable, not yet cooled by the cold fronts which will soon start to roll in; tourism is just waking up after its August/September break; the sunlight has a molten honey cast to it.
I've been to Cat Island in the Bahamas the last two Novembers (in each case, the first week), and the weather and water were ideal. Of course, in 2004, we had to make sure it was OK to head down post-Frances and Jeanne...
In 2001, a planned trip to the Abacos that same week got cancelled by Hurricane Michelle; we ended up re-booking on 18 hours' notice to go to the BVI instead (where the weather also blew -- literally (Christmas winds a month early)), only to learn that Michelle had been a virtual non-event and that the weather after the storm was perfect. We are trying the Abacos again this coming November.
Bottom line (as others have noted) is that there are risks. But at least in November, they are less than in September and balanced by the potential upsides.

It's difficult enough to predict the weather for next week let alone 10 months from now. All anyone can give you is very general info and like the OP's have said if there are no storms brewing the week you choose to go the chances are you'll encounter sunny skies but there are never any guarantees when it comes to dealing with mother nature. You can check out the following web-sites for historical weather data in the islands:
