Water Club or Wyndham El San Juan?

Has anyone stayed at the Water Club? It looks great, but I've never been. Thoughts?

Stay at the Wyndham, the beach is much better than the Water Club. Water Club is in a somewhat run down area, the hotel is very funky and there is almost to much ref to water there, between the elevator and the waterfalls in side.

I actually just booked the Water Club, but can still cancel the resos. I booked it because I thought it had a younger, chicer vibe (or at least it seemed that way from the website). I'm not very interested in big casinos and hotel dining, but am defintely considering access to a good part of the beach as a main concern. What is the beach like near the Water Club? Do you need a car to get aroud there or is it within walking distance to the other hotels and some restaurants, etc?

The Water Club IS a 10 minute walk from the El San Juan. They share the same beach and the area is not run down. A car is not needed and it is within walking distance of all the hotels in Isla Verde.

During our stay in San Juan 2 weeks ago we decided to to check out the Water Club. We heard mix reviews about the place, but we needed to see it for ourselves. Its lobby is small is, cool looking lounge (again kinda small) and its a little out of the way. It almost reminded us of the boutique hotels in South Beach. We took a cab there Thursday night and had a few drinks at the bar. They were out of pinapple juice and stoli orange (at 10PM) which was no big deal. The place was a little empty, but then again it was early and the locals don't usually go out until after 11PM. The restaurant is incredibly overpriced (I am originally from PR, but have lived and worked in NYC for the past 6 years so I'm not adverse to overpaying for food). We didn't get a look at the rooms, but I hope you are aware that they don't have closets. Although I've never stayed at the El San Juan (but have been there many times) it is a lot nicer and Club Babylon is one of the most popular clubs in Isla Verde.
