Warning - Liat Airlines

A warning to anyone considering booking Liat Arilines. In fact could warn against flying to/through Antigua in general. Though Air Traffic Control strike in Antigua partially to blame for missing our connecting flight home to Canada on January 3, Liat did nothing to help. They either leave hours late or cancel flights at the very last minute. We had to rebook flights out of St Maarten 6 days later to get home. St Maarten - pretty nice place to get stuck mind :)

Sorry for your predicament. I've never flown LIAT but always heard it stood for: Leave-Island-Any-Time! Guess it was true this time.

Glad you made the best of being "stranded" in St. Maarten. Could have been much worse.

We used to hear these and make up our own versions while waiting and waiting for LIAT flights and lost baggage 20 years ago.

Glad to hear that their standards are being upheld! :D

Luggage In Another Terminal

Late In Arrival & Takeoffs

The best thing is to schedule an overnight when flying Liat and making a connection -- there's too much that can happen.

:D I'd heard those too....

Maybe it's best NOT to fly LIAT?

Oddly enough they are better than Win-Air, your mostly only other alternative. We learned the hard way to NEVER schedule our flight home while depending on connecting flights on ANY Caribbean carrier. Always plan an over-nighter @ your point of departure (coming & going). For us it is also, usually, St. Maarten.

SAnParis2, do you have a good hotel suggestion for overnighting in SXM?

We'll have a couple of overnights in SXM in June and we'd like a nice resort for the first and a cheap, clean palace to sleep for the second.

For the convenient one, we typically stay @ the Sonesta Maho. It is right in town a few minutes from the Airport. Nothing fancy, but nice pools & you can walk to Dinner, the grocery or whatever. Traffic can be bad so we've never strayed to far if we're just staying overnight. Barbara (I think) is the resident St. Maarten expert. Do a search & you'll find whatever you need.

SXM - We always fly there as we can get there direct from CLT. Then the hopping & fun begins. For more Win-air shenanigans see my posts re: Montserrat.

SAinParis,
Thanks, the Sonesta Maho looks great for an overnight before we fly home as it's close to the airport.
We'll probably stay at the Westin on arrival as we have points.
