Warm weather at Christmas
Am looking for a tropical spot to travel to right after Xmas. Two adults and older children, 18 and 20. Kids love the water and mom and dad can't afford the height of luxury but can do something more moderate or slightly above. Any suggestions?

Mexico would probably be your best bet if you are on a budget.
Apple Vacations is a large reputable company and has very good prices to Mexico and the rest of the Caribbean. If you do use Apple Vacations you should be aware that often times you can get a better rates on day-trips, car rental, etc. than you can from their resort based representatives. Finally, be sure to select a known chain hotel in the package you choose if you go to Mexico. The chain hotels have minimum standards they must meet in order to use these names (Westin, Marriott, etc.). Otherwise you might find yourself in a room with a bad A/C unit, an unflushable toilet, and the mystery odor.

USVI (St.John, St. Thomas) and BVI (Cooper, Virgin Gorda, etc.) destinations are indisputably more beatiful and cleaner than Mexican destinations, but they are both more expensive for like accomodations. They are also considerably more expensive when it comes to food and drink, but not outrageous like Bermuda and its $200 dinners for two. For comparison, a Mexico dinner for two is about $35-40, and a USVI dinner for two is about $65-70. Finally, if you have never been to the USVI or BVI, I highly recommend spending the extra money if your budget allows. John

What a wonderful time of the year to travel. The weather at Christmas is perfect. You get to see the traditional Chirstmas celebrations plus traditions found only in the Caribbean. There is a condo called Sugar Beach on the island of St. Croix U.S.V.I. that might suite your needs. They have studios, one bedroom and two bedroom units air conditioning,TV, full kitchen, pool etc. By doing breakfast and lunch yourself you can save alot of money. The complex in on the beach and close to shopping and restaurants. There are several more such condo properties on the island. There are many things to see and do without breaking the bank. If I can help e-mail me.
