Warm, Close, Relaxing

not too general eh?
I am posting for a couple who wants to escape their children for 5 days somewhere that is a direct flight from new york, not too far, warm this time of year and in the realm of 3,000 to 4,000 for the trip.
This is a couple that has slightly different interests - she likes to read and float in the ocean and he is a golfer who gets antsy sitting all day long on a beach and wants some sort of nature trails, waterfalls etc. to pursue. They keep going to jamaica and want to try something different.
any suggestions?
thanks so much!

Rent a villa on the OTHER coast of Jamaica in Treasure Beach. Golf at the Manchester Country Club in Mandeville, the oldest golf course in western hemisphere, features US$22 greens fees )cf US$175=200/day at Tryall for non-guests). See the community web site at www.treasurebeach.net for a wide spectrum of choices that are kid-friendly, laid-back, non-resorty, relaxing with plenty of diversions should you want to do more than de-compress and bliss out with a book by a pool or the beach....

Cayman is great, but there's not too much adventure.
In Puerto Rico, they can do all of the above and MORE; Not to mention much cheaper.
ps--7 Mile Beach in Grand Cayman is FANTASTIC
