Want to avoid April Vacation/Spring Break rush...best time/place to visit?
My husband and I are planning a vacation to the Carribbean...we want to go in April but wish to avoid spring break partiers and April vacation rush. We are interested in all inclusive...nice beach, pool, water sports. Any advice as to where/when? Traveling from Northeast and are flexible. Would May be better option? Thanks in advance for your help!

I believe the best time to go is the first week of May. During that time, all spring breaks should be over, but all kids should still be in school. In April, you would still be facing some people on spring break. I will let someone else answer your question as to where to go.

I don't think the "April vacation rush" is that significant in most parts of the Caribbean (not like Orlando!). In fact, many hotels drop their rates about April 15.
To avoid spring breakers, stay away from Cancun, Jamaica, and Nassau. I've been seeing reports about Punta Cana also becoming a spring break scene lately. Just about anywhere else should be okay. |
Here is a calendar of Spring Break 2004. It lists colleges with dates: http://www.tripsmarter.com/panamacit...sbcalendar.htm
This should give you a good idea of how many and when! |
You could do Jamaica during Spring Break as long as you stick to a couples only AI. My recommendation is Swept Away. I went 2 yrs during my daughter's Spring Break and there were certainly none at that resort. It was fun walking down the beach to where they stay - all the topless college girls made my boyfriend's week.

College spring break can be a literal zoo. My husbands secretary got caught in the Cancun rush-have you seen that on MTV? We go to the islands in April,--Anguilla, Antigua. The week after Easter is a big kids school break so there will be more children at the resorts. I plan on going anytime after that to Anguilla. I would also feel comfortable going to Barbados, St. John, etc.& like cdt mentioned stay away from the big well known party islands. I did my partying many many years ago in Nassau!
