VRBO.com

Anyone used this service before? Always leary of phony listings . Hate 2 be out of a couple grand. Do they have 2 prove ownership orjust apply on line?

I have addressed this on here before but will do so again. We have used them in excess of 50 times throughout the US & in a few other countries. They do have a person(s) who do random checks on the properties to insure what is advertised is what is really there, they are called "the Bear". I have never had one problem w/any of the properties I have rented through vrbo, ever.

My husband and I have used VRBO several times, but never outside the U.S. We've never had any problems. I would advise asking as many questions as possible about the accomodations, and ask for extra pictures if there are only a couple.

We own a VRBO home and believe me, we have alot to loose too. We've held weeks for people who swear the $ was mailed and never comes. Just ask questions. They should send you a contract. You should not need to pay everything up front unless it is short notice. Also talk to them on the phone...you learn lots about people just by talking. Trust your instincts...most are legit.

VRBO is a reputable firm that puts one in direct contact with villa owners.
Overseas rentals (Caribbean, for example) generally have rental terms/contracts that require a 50%
deposit and balance at least 60 days
prior to arrival. It's important you
check the villa owner's contract closely. VRBO is just the referral
Web site.
