Visas req'd for Casas in Cuba?

I recently heard from a fairly reliable source (a Canadian woman I know married to a Cuban) that visitors to Cuba staying in casa particulars are required to purchase a visa through the Cuban consulate for approx CAN $91. This is in addition to being able to produce a voucher from a hotel for at least 3 days prior to entry. Have you heard this information before? We are heading to Cuba in February 2000 and would certainly appreciate a reply.
Thank you

The cost of an entry visa for U.S. citizens is $35 U.S. I can't imagine that it would be any different for a Canadian citizen. The cost of a visa is the same no matter where you stay.

When I was there in April, I just gave them the address of the casa where I was staying and there were no problems.
