Virgin Islands Golf?

We'll be staying at the Marriott on St Thomas in December using rewards points and want to play golf while we're there. I called Mahagony Run golf course and their greens fees are $140/person. I'm looking for some kind of package that will lower this rate. Would like to play 1 or 2 times. We don't have enough reward points for our whole stay so we will need to pay for a hotel for 2 or 3 nights and are willing to stay elsewhere. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced golf package? Also, would consider taking the ferry over to St Croix for golf if this is a lot less expensive - open for options. I appreciate your advice.

Hi getaway, I don't think the ferry to STX is that good a solution. It's $64 per person round trip and takes 1.5 hours. Only runs twice per day. STX is considerably south of STT & STJ. I don't know what the golf options are at STX and their costs either. It seems like at that price I think you're better off at Mahogany Run. There aren't any golf courses on STJ.

You might find better, closer options on Tortola or one of the other BVI's which are much nearer to STT.

Good luck!

feedback from others who have played mahog. run is that the course is not that well kept. that, plus the pricey fees, caused us to forgo golf; $140 buys a nice night of wining and dining for a couple in just about any restaurant on STT! i am not aware of any golf packages, but did not seriously search for any either.

Mahagony is a joke....especially at those prices! The only world class golf in the Virgin Islands is on STX. Carambola is a Robert Trent Jones course and is a very nice track. If you are going to the Caribbean to play golf....it may be best to pick a different island. The Virgin Islands (other than STX) are too small and rocky for golf courses. I suggest Jamaica, Puerto Rico or DR.

Thank you all for the VERY helpful advice. I believe we'll do just that - forego the golf for this trip and enjoy the watersports instead.
