Stay at Little Dix if you crave a resort experience but for my money (I've done both) you should rent a villa on Mahoe Bay for a perfect light golden sand uncrowded beach, calm, clear torquoise waters, and a great snorkling reef just a few yards off shore. There's a fine italian restaurant just a few minute walk down the beach. Rent a car and you are a 10 to 15 minute drive from numerous other restaurants, the Baths, several other pristine beaches, the yacht basin, pubs, you name it. You won't find a better location on all of VG.

Guavaberry is a nice location but it is in close proximity to the Baths which get very crowded with tour groups. Mahoe Bay on the other hand is much more private. As I said in my previous post the snorkling there is some of the best on the island and you are likely to be the only ones on the beach. When you want to join the crowds to snorkle at the Baths or Spring Bay (and you should visit at least once during your stay) you are less than 10 minutes away by car. It's a no brainer in my opinion but there are others who crave the excitement of seeing a lot of people.

We are planning a return trip to VG and are looking for a place to stay. We last stayed at Mango Bay which we liked. I checked on Guavaberry, but want to be right on the beach... not up above. Is Mahoe Bay at beach level?

Mahoe Bay is right next to the Mango Bay resort, they share the same beach. There are a number of upscale villas, most of which are for rent. Some are beach front, some are beach access (less than a minute walk to the beach) and some are on the hill side above the beach (about a 2 minute walk). All have great views of the Caribbean sunsets. This is one of my favorite spots in the Caribbean.

My family (11) is planning a trip to Virgin Gorda. We were previously planning a return trip to St. John but most of us have been there at least twice. We are planning to rent Beachcomber on Mahoe Bay and are trying to obtain opinions on the quality of the beaches (Mahoe Bay & others) compared to St. John (Trunk Bay, Hawksnest, Cinnamon Bay, etc.).

jdsmith,
I was just recently at all of the beaches you mentioned and the beaches of St John are very nice, but I preferred Mahoe Bay due to the excellent snorkeling and few people.
That having been said, the beaches you mentioned on St John in my opinion are traditionally prettier if you are thinking in terms solely of views, length and width, white sand and blue water.
We like things as secluded and quiet as possible, which is why we found Mahoe Bay best suited our preferences.
