Villa vs Hotel in St Barths

My wife are I are planning to go to St Barths in August and are looking at villas. These seem to be a good deal, $2500+ for the week for a 1-2 bedroom with a nice pool and terrific view. Any thoughts on this versus a hotel and if hotel is preferred, any recommendations? Thanks for the help!

K & P,
We have rented villas twice in St Barths but never stayed in a hotel, we like having a kitchen, pool and the privacy of the villa. Generally speaking, hotels are more expensive than the villas - we used Wimco the 1st time and stayed in Lorient area (called MAG at that time), the 2nd time we used St Barth Properties and stayed in Mon Plasir close to Gustavia. Both these companies have web sites and catalog - hope this helps. Jamie

K & P,
Hotel St. Jean has a summer special on their cottages for around $1000 to $1500 depending on the view and size. Their cottages all have kitchens. There is also a pool at the hotel. Having a kitchen will save a lot on meal costs which can add up - especially in St. Baths. We went to St. Barths for the first time this year (just got back) and we liked the St. Jean area the best.

Thanks for the postings. Jamie, how was MAG? Wimco still has it listed and it was one of the ones on our list of preferred choices. Any comments? Thanks again for the help!

K & P,
If you haven't run on to this website yet, it will give you lots of info. For a list of trip reports on ST Barths - www.caribtravelnews.com/sbh.htm
Try
www.caribtravelnews.com/c1294_01.htm for our impression of MAG in '94. To be honest, my husband still talks about MAG - it was lovely and very relaxing. Hope this helps, Jamie
