Vieques by Ferry or Catamaran Tour?
My sister and I plan to spend the day at Vieques. Are we better off just taking the ferry from Fajardo or is it worth the extra $ to take one of those fast cats that stops for snorkeling, feeds you, etc?

A fast catamaran to Vieques as a _day_ trip that does snorkeling? I don't believe that there is one.
As I understand it, your options for getting to Vieques "for the day" are to take the ferry out of Fajardo, or to take a "puddle jumper" plane from either the Fajardo, Isla Grande, or SJU airports. Let me ask you this ... What is it that you want to do on Vieques? Are you looking to go there for the day, maybe hit a few beaches, have a meal or 2, go shopping? If so, then you're best off flying or taking the ferry. Once on Vieques, you'll need to either rent a car or rely on taxis for transportation. Are you planning on visiting the biobay (Mosquito Bay) on Vieques? If so, then you either need to plan on spending the night on Vieques, or you can take the East Island Excursion biobay trip. That trip is a "fast cat" that departs from Fajardo around 5pm and returns to Fajardo around 10:30pm. In between, they give you free drinks, a Mexican/PR meal in Vieques, and they put you on an electric pontoon boat to see the biobay. It also includes all transportation while on Vieques. We did that trip a couple months ago, and it was great! You can read our review of it at http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/20...ieques-biobay/ Are you really just looking for a day-long snorkel trip? If so, then you probably want one of the sailing catamaran snorkel boats that leaves from Fajardo, feeds you lunch, and takes you to 2 or 3 different places to snorkel. Those trips are usually last from about 10am-ish to 4pm-ish. Those trips do _not_ include a stop at Culebra nor Vieques. You can get more info, including contact info, in our travel guide at http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/20...-wind-sealife/ One final option ... I believe that East Island Excursions offers a "power cat" snorkel trip to the marine nature preserve off the coast of Culebra. But I don't think that trip includes any time on Culebra itself. Hope this helps! // Ray |
