Varadero, Cuba
I'm looking at booking a holiday for early March. So far the hotels in my price range that I'm interested in are: (all are 4 star)
1) Villa Cuba
2) Brisas del Caribe
3) Iberostar Tainos
4) LTI - Tuxpan
5) LTI - Bella Costa
6) Sol Club Las Sirenas

So far I'm leaning towards the Tuxpan from advice I've received (see my other post as well). I'm interested in how the food is, how the rooms are, the staff and the entertainment (shows and disco). Are there plenty of fun activities? Are the guests friendly. None of us have children. We are 2 in their 30s and 2 in their 60s.
Thanks!

I know it's not on your list but it's worth mentioning...last Christmas we spent 2 weeks at the Iberostar Barlavento (also 4*) and were on the whole delighted. It's a bit smaller than the other hotels and we found it very friendly. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the food good - especially the Christmas day menu and the staff friendly and thoughtful. The evening entertainment was well thought out and very enjoyable. There were plenty of activities going on during the day - mainly the usual sorts of games. It was very easy to meet other people and there was a very good atmosphere in the bar every night. The guests were a good mixture of Canadian, German and Dutch and we were delighted at how friendly everyone was. One added bonus is that the hotel is the first on the strip and consequently, for excursions, we were the last to be picked up in the morning and the first to be deposited back in the evening! Also, there is a lively market right next to the hotel every day.

Have a great holiday whichever one you choose! We loved it so much, we'll probably go back next year!
Thanks very much Adam - I found it in a brochure but it is listed as a 3 star - my travel agent suggested a 4 star or more because it is Cuba.
I think the Iberostar Tainos is a sister hotel to this one and may be new? It isn't listed yet on Iberostar's web site. Does anyone else have info. on any of these hotels?
Hi Lynne,
I've stayed at the Bella Costa and really enjoyed it. I agree with your travel agent....stay at a 4 star. The food at the Bella Costa was very good and people from other hotels were coming to eat there, because they didn't like the food at their hotel. The selection was great. The Tuxpan is right next door and is owned by the same company. Although we didn't eat there, I'm sure it would be as good as the Bella Costa.
The rooms are fairly plain, like most rooms in Cuba. Not the same as our 4* but certainly acceptable and clean. The beach is paradise!
Have fun.
Lee

Hi Lynne,

For a more "natural" environment perhaps you might want to consider going to Cayo Guillermo instead of Varadero. We recently returned from Sol Club Cayo Guillermo and loved it. No high-rises. The resort is designed like a small village. The food and the people are great. Nightly entertainment is by far superior to many places we've been (live bands, dance performances, fashion shows...). This is a 4-star resort (run by the Sol Melia Group) and the cost is approximately $1,600 CDN per person for a two-week stay. Good luck!
Lynne:
For what it's worth, I haven't stayed at any of the hotels you list, but from what I've seen, the LTI Bella Costa is likely the best of the list. The Tuxpan is not quite as good; although the 2 share some facilities, people who stayed at the Tuxpan told us that the food was not quite as good. The Sol Club Las Sirenas looked better in the brochure than it did in person.

Good luck!
Tim
