US Travel Advisory-Turks and Caicos -Level 4: Do Not Travel

I was planning a trip to the Turks and Caicos in August. The US Embassy currently has a No travel -Level 4 advisory due to crime and Covid. Can anyone provide a better perspective on this. Is it truly currently unsafe for visitors? Are Americans being targeted with crime? Is there a high-level of COVId infections increasing on a daily basis?

About Turks and Caicos

Here's my take on it as a frequent pre-COVID visitor. COVID is everywhere. It all comes down to your comfort level and whether or not you're vaccinated. If you're not vaccinated, you obviously run a much higher risk of getting COVID almost anywhere that you travel this summer. We are repeat visitors to Turks and are going back in July. Crime levels on all the islands and many other places has increased over the last several years. Provo had a serious crime wave about four years ago, but that seems to have calmed down significantly. I think if you use common sense ( don't walk on the beach after dark , make sure to lock your rental car, don't flash jewelry etc) Ik you'll be fine. My recommendation would be to reserve at one of the hotels along Grace Bay, which tends to more populated and a bit safer than some other areas. Again, Turks is not unusual in this crime spike. It's happening in many places all over the world. Good luck!

If you look at the State Department map, most of the Caribbean is under a "Do not travel" warning.
