Union Island

Has anyone spent any amount of time on Union Island?
We plan to hop around but wanted to stay close to
Tabago Cayes. PSV and Palm island are unaffordable
in this year's vacation budget.
We've looked at BigSandHotel...any advice?

If you are looking for a budget place to stay, I would recommend St. Joseph's guesthouse, run by the local parish. Also go to the Usual Suspects website for a great description of the island and its characters from a sailor's perpsective.

I haven't statyed at Big Sands but it is on my roundtuit list.

checked out the sight. Thanks!
I think we're in good shape. Just want to hide
out on a quiet beach for a while and then
we're off to St. Lucia.
hoping to see some whales while there in
grenandines....any suggestions on this?

The whale route is (roughly speaking) down the west coast of St. Vincent, around the south side of Bequia and past Mustique, then straight on down towards Grenada. I have often seen whales while sailing the deep waters to the Cays, but never actually in the Cays. The season for spotting is definitely February-March.

I suppose you know that traditional whaling is still carried on in Bequia ?

Yes...we are aware of the whaling issues.
Hoping not to see too much suffering.
Wondering if maybe whale watching from
St. Lucia is a better thing.
