Underwater cameras

Hello. My fiance and I are getting ready to start some SCUBA classes and I'd like to buy him an underwater camera as a Christmas gift. Problem is, I don't even know where to begin. Can someone please advise on what to look for...what brands are good, how much I should expect to spend etc. And where I would go to buy one! I want a decent camera but do not want to spend a fortune.

Thanks so much.

Try these websites for camera reviews etc..

www.scubadiving.com/photo/gear/8cameras/

http://www.scubadiving.com/photo/gear/pointshoot/

http://www.scubadiving.com/photo/instruction/weblinks/

If you just want to try out underwater photos before major investment you can buy disposable underwater cameras. I have used these several times and the pictures are great. They are just the point and click kind but work well and are cheap. Good way to get some good underwater snaps without spending major bucks.

Quality of photos bewteen disposable underwater cameras and the real thing would be dramatic.

Plus If you are going to be SCUBA diving to 40,60,80 feet I do not know of any diposable camera that will work below 20...
