Two Hotels in San Juan

Hi-

We are looking at the Intercontinental San Juan in Isla Verde (which we have stayed at before) and the La Concha, A Renaissance Resort in Condado. We love Isla Verde for its resturants, beach, you can walk to everything. What is the Condado area like?

Condado is much easier for walking, in my opinion. There are a lot of restaurants within fairly easy walking distance of La Concha (the restaurant in the hotel itself is pretty overpriced). The beaches are significantly better in Isla Verde, however, so that may be a consideration. But if you are looking for more of a South Beach vibe, you'll like La Concha. If you are looking for a recently renovated hotel in Isla Verde, you might also take a look at the El San Juan.

Thanks Doug for the reply! After reading the reviews of La Concha on trip advisor, we have decided against it.
I'm sure its a great hotel just not really what we are looking for. We have now moved on to the Marriott San Juan also in Condado.

Stayed at Intercontinental in June and we loved it! Great pool area, wonderful beach, great staff - would stay there again for sure!

The Marriott in Condado is also ok and has been recently renovated. I'm still not a fan of the loud lobby and casino, but it's certainly convenient. There's even a Starbucks across the street. The beach is just ok (same basically as La Concha). You might also take a look at the Courtyard Isla Verde Beach Resort. Nice hotel with a good restaurant. Very family-oriented, but the beach is good there as well. It's not as upscale as the InterContinental, though.

I just got back from 4 nights at Condado Plaza and 4 nights at El San Juan. Condado area is currently undergoing a lot of construction. La Concha is building a new tower and next door, there is a new hotel being built which I believe is going to be called the Vanderbilt. The area is really improving but just be aware that you will run into some construction as you walk around Ashford Avenue.
