TV's at Caneel and Cap Juluca
 

Quick question - do either Caneel Bay or Cap Juluca have TV's?

Historically, Caneel Bay has had neither television or phones in their rooms... supposed to add to the charm and near enforcement of quiet relaxation away from the teeming masses.

Forgot to add they may have added tv and phones since their latest renovations, but I'm not sure. You should check their website.

Thanks Tuxedocat; it mentions that they have VCR's "available", but the TV issue isn't clear.

It's been a while since I was at Caneel but when I was there they didn't have TV's

At Cap Juluca there are no TV's in the rooms but they will supply one if you request (I believe there was a small daily charge). Be forewarned, there is no cable or satellite hook-up in the rooms so all you can get is a few "off the airwaves" signal. There is a large screen TV in the game room.

I just got back from Cap Juluca about 2 months ago, and there was a TV in my room at no extra charge and without my asking. I just assumed all the rooms have TV's.

Also, we had cable/satellite TV in the room with tons of American stations to choose from. Maybe things have changed since "A Traveller" was last at Cap Juluca?

CJ does not have TV's in the room. I honestly would hate to have every room with a TV because the beauty of CJ is the open air louvred doors, etc--the sounds of the TV in all 6 rooms in each villa could really be a problem. Not all guests are considerate of their fellow neighbors. Yes, you can rent a TV in fact we had the use of one quite a few years ago in the pool villa-same as you Becca it was in the room.
I have not been to Caneel in a few years, it really is very nice without the televison and phones. Ahh but cell phones are in use in the USVI.

Becca--hope you had a great trip. What restaurants did you enjoy? Did you like CJ?

We just recently returned from CJ -- no TVs, but we did have our laptop computer for which we had a hookup. We used it primarily to preview and send digital photos to our kids -- but we also got brief news updates on it. There is a TV in the library in the main building, but we never used it.

I know I didn't dream that there was a TV in my room at Cap Juluca. It was definitely satellite TV because channels NBC, CBS and ABC were local out of NYC. Maybe the previous occupants of the room had requested a TV, and then Cap Juluca didn't move it out before my husband and I checked in? Penny, I adored Cap Juluca. It is in my top 3 of resorts that I have visited - with Caneel Bay and Jumby Bay being in the top 3 as well. Of the restaurants we visited, my favorite was Blanchard's. I also enjoyed Scilly Cay. I have part of a trip report drafted, and I promise to get it posted here one of these days!

Becca - please tell me more about the resort. Which room did you stay in?
What is snorkeling like at the beach?
Is there any life in those beautiful waters?

We booked a Superior Room at $345/night but was bumped up to a Luxury Room which normally runs $420/night. We didn't ask to be bumped up, but we've noticed that with the particular travel agent we use, that normally happens if there is availability. The building we were in was building 19 - as far away as you can get from the restaurants, which was fine by us. We liked the privacy of being down at the far end of the beach. The room was awesome - we had a bedroom, small balcony off the bedroom, living room, balcony off the living room, and a fabulous bathroom. We found the service to be very good, and the staff was extremely accomodating. We did not go snorkeling, so I can't comment on that, but the water is sooo clear and beautiful! I promise I'll make an effort to post my full trip report soon. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Becca for the info. I have read from other posts that the far end of the beach where you stayed has a wider beach and gets the sun in the afternoon. Is that true? As well, it looks like from the aerial view of the resort (posted on cap's web site) has some rocks at that end of the beach. Can you confirm? Some snorkeling would really please my husband.

Lastly, is there beach service at the far end near bldg 19? Or is it only near the beach club (12 or so?)

Do you also know the room that has the roof top accessible (upper middle?). Is that accessible from the room or do you need to go out into the hallway to go up? Is the deck populated with flowers and decorated?

There's decent snorkeling at other beaches in Anguilla -- Little Bay, Shoal Bay East & Junks Hole all come to mind. There are also a couple of uninhabited islands near Anguilla that you can reach by boat where the snorkeling is quite nice. The catamaran Chocolat goes to a couple of them & there are a number of motor boats to take you, as well (Junior at Shoal Bay East is quite good -- Cap can recommend others).
