Turks and Caicos - Windsong or West Bay Club?

My husband and I (ages late 40s and late 30s) are planning a trip in February. Due to high season and some very expensive rates, we have narrowed our search down to 2 hotels - Windsong or West Bay Club. They both look very nice and the price is right for us. However, which is better?

We like nice hotels. We do not have the "it's only for sleeping and showering" attitude towards our hotels. We like clean, relaxing, nice, and more upscale (if it's in our budget). We are looking for some good beach time and snorkeling. We usually like a nice, big pool but since the beach/water is fabulous we're ok with a smaller pool since most of our water time will be on the beach. We mostly enjoy good drinks and fun during the day and the early evening. We are planning on renting a car for dinners, exploring the island, etc. but would enjoy walking to a resort or two during the day for lunch/drinks, etc.

Hopefully that gives you an idea of what we're looking for. Which hotel would be better or for that matter, is there a better suggestion? Most of the hotels are either extremely expensive or already booked.

Thanks! Any help is most appreciated!

Of the 2 --West Bay Club hands down. Nicer rooms, pool, restaurant etc. Windsong is fine BUT-it is next door to Coral Gardens --this is where people walk to to snorkel and it gets busy in front of Coral Gardens and Windsong. Also everyone coming from the resorts to the east( Beaches, etc) walks past you if you are sitting on the Windsong beach. Also, Windsong beach is narrow. West Bay Club has a deeper beach and is next door to Gansevort -able to walk to their restaurant. BTW-Windsong and West bay Club are a 5-10 min walk on the beach from one another so walking to snorkel from WB Club is easy.
We always stay at The Somerset -- we love it. Have you checked it out-many restaurants near by and a world class spa next door.

Thanks for the response. We have checked out a lot of places and The Somerset was one of them due to many people recommending it on places like Tripadvisor. The Somerset looks great but it's double in price of the West Bay Club. We are trying to stay within our budget since this isn't a trip we were really planning on doing for 2011. It's more of a whim - we had so much snow last winter we thought a February trip would help us through the upcoming winter! LOL!

Thanks again for your response.

Hi South Jersey Girl,

My husband and I have stayed at many of the properties on Turks and Caicos - including ones that you mention. There is NO better value that West Bay Club - PLUS - it is everything you want - clean, upscale, snorkel right off shore, lovely infinity pool, huge space with views views views... Marble floors throughout, floor to ceiling windows - and if you stay in a one bedroom luxury, even an ocean view from absolutely the most comfortable king sized bed you have ever slept in. Can you tell we love this place? Like I said, we have stayed at many of the properties - but this is the one we now go back to again and again - even their bathrobes in the room are fabuous!! Go to West Bay Club - I GUARANTEE you will get hooked!

PJafrica - Thanks for the response. It looks like the West Bay Club is the way we're going to go. We like everything we read on it. I am psyched to get there. We've never been to Turks and Caicos - something to look forward when the winter gets cold...

Caribzack - We'll definitely check out the live music at The Somerset. I'll be researching these forums for other good places to hit.

Thanks again for your responses! Can't wait to get there!

Have a blast! If you want some restaurant suggestions let me know. I am sure you will meet Dane - he is the manager there. He is a super guy - and will help you with anything you need! Take advantage of the car rental discount they get with Grace Bay Car Rental. We use them ALL the time. Totally reliable and much less $... And wait until you see this place! I am JEALOUS!!

Janiekins - that's great! We booked the hotel today. We will be there in February as well. I can't wait as well! I've been to many islands, but not here. I'm so excited.

PJafrica - I'll definitely let you know if I need any restaurant suggestions. I'll be reading over these forums and others to get some good ideas. I will be taking advantage of the discounted car rental. I'm not sure if we'll be renting a car the whole time we're there, but we will definitely have it for a portion of the time. I can't wait to get there!

SouthJerseyGirl, staying at West Bay Club I highly recommend a rental car. It's on a quiet section of Grace Bay, and other than the restaurant they have, you can walk next door to Gansevoort, but all the great restaurants require transportation. Taxi ends up costing way more than rental car, and it's actually fairly easy to drive around the Grace Bay area's restaurants, nice flat mostly straight roads. Usually for the cost of 1 taxi ride you could have unlimited driving around to restaurants, other sections of the really long Grace Bay (with different "personalities") to the supermarket, small shops, casino and even better, to explore other gorgeous beaches and the do not miss Chalk Sound, the most turquoise turquoise you'll ever lay eyes on. With bad economies, I do not recommend walking around at night other than to next door Gansevoort--there are some really dark areas to get anywhere from there.

Thanks Blamona! We decided that we will rent a car the entire trip. It will give us the freedom to drive around all week. I will definitely check out Chalk Sound. I am so excited! I've done nothing all weekend except check out different websites, etc! I do need to focus on work! LOL! I haven't done any research yet, but I will be looking into Grace Bay Car Rental's discounted rate. Do you know if they have a location at the airport? (I will be researching car rentals, but since you responded to my post, I'd figured I'd ask.)
