Turks & Caicos vs. Barbados

Hello...

I'm going to the Caribbean in May 2003 and have been researching prospective islands after just returning from Aruba. I've narrowed my choices to Turks & Caicos (Provo) and Barbados. I am wondering if anyone has any feedback of what better suits my needs. Somebody convince me what island to visit! Perhaps somebody who has been to both islands can help out.

Here’s what I am looking for...

-A nice resort with modern amenities. A good pool and beach are essential. Thinking Ocean Club West (Provo) or the Colony Club (Barbados west coast). The resort has to have a good location to other resorts/area attractions and can get around without a rental car.

-Some activities/nightlife. I know Turks is quiet but do the bars at the resorts close down at night? I'm not looking to be dancing on tables but would like to have a few drinks at night after a meal. Can you walk from resort to resort at night in Barbados?

-I know no place is safe in terms of crime but which one has a more safer/friendlier feel?

-Where does the American dollar go the furthest? I know both are pricey but are Turks & Barbados relatively equally priced?

-On the whole which has better weather in May?

Any suggestions or comments about both or either island is appreciated!
T&C is quiet but yes the bars do stay open at nightand some are quite lively and there is a casino.
Provo is small so getting around by Taxi is not prohibitive.
Barbados is a larger island - so I imagine that a car would probably be a good idea there.
Safety:
Provo - VERY safe - I have only heard of very petty crime and practically nothing about violent crime (occasional drug smuggling arrests due to proximity to U.S. is about the worst I have heard of)
Barbados - probably not quite as safe as Provo but I would hazard a guess that it is probably as safe as Aruba.
BTW - the islands are quite different from one another
Provo - flat desert island, spectacular beaches and ocean - snorkeling in Provo is a must
Barbados - more green and lush and hilly - a round the island tour is a must - fantastic ocean views in Bathsheba.
Personally, I love Provo but I am a snorkeling, ocean swimming fan.
I have only been to Barbados briefly so I am not the best person to provide a balanced view.
