Turks and Caicos or Aruba in August??

I'm planning a week vacation in August but I can't decide between Turks and Caicos or Aruba. Any suggestions? I'm travelling with my 13 year old daughter. Thanks.

I have only been to Aruba so I am not sure exactly what the turks caicos are like except what I have read.
First, they are two very different islands in the fact that Aruba is a lot more developed. I would think that Turks caicos would have more possibility of being affected by hurricanes, but there is no guarantee for either place. Turks caicos will have much better snorkeling, but is a much quieter island in general.
If you are looking to spend your days snorkeling, then go to turks caicos. If you want beach, some watersports and lots of restaurants to choose from, go to Aruba.

We enjoyed our stay at the marriott which is now an even larger complex. I would think your 13 year old would find lots to do there.

I've been to both, and enjoyed them both for different reasons. I think it would depend on what your 13 year old likes. Aruba has some great resorts, casinos, more development, and lots more to do. It's very busy and very fun. Turks and Caicos is more laid-back and relaxed, and there's lots of construction on the island due to booming development, but it's still much quieter than Aruba. And Grace Bay Beach is just fantastic and beautiful...you can't beat it. We just laid on the beach for a week there, and were totally content. But if your daughter needs more to do, Aruba is more "happening". They are both great, though, honestly, and you can't go wrong with either one.

No two islands could be more different. Aruba is very developed and Americanized! Provo is not developed - just getting started. Construction everywhere. Aruba has millions of visitors every year, Provo on T&C not so much. Aruba has a great public transportation system, cheap car rentals and driving on the right. Provo has no public transportation system, expensive car rentals and driving on the left. There is lots of gambling casinos and things to do at night in Aruba. There is practically nothing to do on Provo at night. We love them both, but for a different type of vacation. We keep busy on Aruba and do practically nothing on Provo except snorkel and walk the beach.
