Turks and caicos in August
#3
I've been the last 5 Augusts to Provo. In 5 years, only one 20 minute storm! Sunshine every day. Occasional storm looking clouds that would pass by in 10 minutes, or you could see them at the distance while you sat in the sun.
The water in August is usually like a giant swimming pool, crystal clear, calm, simply gorgeous.
T&C is one of the driest islands on earth, they average more than 300 sunny days a year, so having them have a "rainy season" is really stretching it.
If you look at forcasts, if you see a chance of rain, that means in the entire T&C, not just Provo, and it usually means a 20 minute shower on one of the islands. Many times I've been on Grace Bay and you can view a shower over North Caicos. North Caicos is the greenest island in the group-but even that's a stretch considering overall how dry flat and scrubby they are.
Compare forcasts with actual live Cams to get the idea:

Great discounts in august too---

lobomago--another thing is it's hot all up and down the East Coast, might as well be at the beach!
It actually feels hotter in VA--
even today, we get the bad "code red" days where the sky is milky white, and you can cut the air with a knife. Today it's 99 degrees and with humidity makes it 115!
so i'll take T&C's beach heat any day!

Friends of mine went in August last year and May this year. They said the beach was empty in August - (like that's a bad thing!) My only concern about the weather is how T & C is affected during hurricane season. And as far as the discounts, the last time I checked the airfare, it was an unbelievable $290 r/t!
Blamona, I'm in NJ, so I feel your pain with this heat wave we're having. I definitely would rather be on the beach in T & C.
What about renting a car? Are you better off having one?

susie, where did you find that air? share!
Typically T&C is one of the driest islands in the world. Other than a major hurricane (which happened Sept 2008-the first major one in 50 yrs) it's usually hot and dry. This year HOAA is calling for a lesser hurricane season.
Does this mean I can predict the weather? ;-)
My past experiences I've had terrific Aug. vacations, and probably will try again. The good thing about tornados (good?) is you usually have about 5 days warning to react. In season always get insurance regardless were you decide to go.

Blamona, I found the airfare about two weeks ago, Continental, Newark to Providencales. When I checked it tonight, it was up to $400 and something. Interestingly enough, I've also been keeping an eye on San Francisco fares. Two weeks ago, it was $562. Last night it was $318, today it is $340-ish. It is amazing how they fluctuate! I will keep checking and if it goes that low again, will hope to grab it. Which is why I want to decide on where to stay. I'm also looking at VBRO.

I suppose it is hotter stateside than it is here. Just had a torrential downpour this evening. Sorry guys but loving the weather--my cisterns are getting full, all of my landscaping projects are happy and my pools are trying to turn on me (can't all be good--can it?). It is nice and cool tonight. Haven't turned on the AC all year.
