Turks and Cacicos
I am looking for a place to stay in Turks and Caciocs. I am going with a friend - we are 50ish. I am single she is not. I want a place on a long, white, sandy beach.
Does anyone know of a place - might have a little night life but most important is a long beach - couple miles one way to walk on each day. Does anyone have a 4 or 5 star resort they can suggest ?????? |
From The Somerset resort you can walk hours in each direction on the beach. www.thesomerset.com and they are offering a special of one night free, breakfast included, beautiful condos, great staff and you can walk to MANY other restaurants and resorts from there...the 2 onsite restaurants are great as well.

Any resort on Grace Bay will afford you 11 miles of white sandy beach to walk.

Lots of great values do some careful research for best value
but Grace Bay best overall... http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...Providenciales |
hi roamsaround - do you have any suggestions? Something nice but not outrageously expensive. Somerset is very expensive. Where did you stay when you were there?
|
Just got back from there last night. What is outrageously expensive to you? That is very subjective. Know that overall it is an expensive destination, when compared to Mexico and Dominican Republic for example. A rough amount helps us help you. Plus you asked for 4 or 5 star-Somerset is the standard pricing for that level. Depending on your budget you might have to settle for 2.
The long beach is a given, 12 miles of choice resorts. Nightlife is a little harder to find, overall a quiet island. There's a sprinkle of live music on some nights, but you'll need a rental car regardless of where you stay to do it--After knowing your budget and recommending places, then we can narrow down your nightlife from there. PS the beach is a dream to walk for miles--look for my trip report and pictures soon. |
Good point. Sorry should have given a dollar. I was looking for $2000 or so a person. Somerset was that just for the hotel. I often do a charter and that helps with the price. Does that help with recommendations???
|
Are you looking for AI or renting a condo and cooking?
|
No charter flight to T&C, unless you're coming from Canada. (even then I don't think they're charter.) If $2000 per person, expect around $600 for air. (don't know where you're coming from.)
How many nights? What time of year? All affect the budget. $2000 include excursions and food? |
check out www.oceanclubresorts.com and www.royalwestindies.com
We've stayed at OceanClub WEST(better location than the original Ocean Club IMO) 3 yrs. in a row. Haven't stayed atRoyal West Indies, but have eaten there many times. Both properties are lower priced because they are older, but they are mixed right in with the high end stuff. They both have beautiful pool areas, a restaurant on premises, and that fantastic beach you are looking for. Here are my trip reports from '08, '09, and '10 if you are interested. http://www.fodors.com/community/cari...rip-report.cfm http://www.fodors.com/community/cari...ime-around.cfm http://www.fodors.com/community/cari...d-it-again.cfm You can find good deals at both properties at www.VRBO.co. and www.homeaway.com I will say that the 2 privately owned units that we rented were much nicer than the small studio we rented through Ocean Club hotel at the last minute. Upgrading to a JR. Suite will get you a better unit in a better location. The long, long, gorgeous beach is the best we've been on in our 20 yrs. of going to the Carribbean. As far as nightlife---not much, other than some wonderful dinners. I do hope I have helped. |
FYI----on both VRBO and Homeaway go to Caribbean,Turks & Caicos, Providenciales, then Grace Bay.

I just got back from a great week in Grand Turk and a night in Provo. Grand Turk wasn't nearly as expensive as expected (yay!) mostly due to having lived in SF and Chicago where prices are also high. $3/gallon drinking water from the hotel bar was pretty reasonable considering I often buy a gallon for $2 from Walgreens. I was happy that I didn't pay an additional $300 a week for a kitchen -- our breakfast tab before tip for a week for 2 people in Grand Turk was $111. 2 eggs, 2 bacon, breakfast potatoes, 1-2 cups of fresh brewed coffee per person. (We dive most mornings so kept breakfast simple.)
Most people told us that tourism in T/C is slow so you can definitely get lower rates, esp from private owners. We were offered a week at Alexandra resort on Grace Bay for $179/night (over NYE week) so you're likely to get the $149/night rate in April if you ask although it's def not 4 star: http://www.vrbo.com/217266 Provo seemed more expensive than Grand Turk although it was difficult to tell since we only ate dinner at Coco Bistro which was a nicer restaurant (and very good). Seemed comparable to Guanahani restaurant in Grand Turk, also very nice and very good rack of lamb, prime rib, and lobster. Ordering lobster was always a good value since what we were eating would have been much more costly in a U.S. restaurant. Good luck, beautiful island, try to go if you can! |
