Trying to decide between Aruba or Puerto Vallarta?

My husband and I have a week in either place and we're trying to decide which is better. We want a fun nightlife, gambling, nice beach, golf for my husband. Our favorite place we've been are the Greek Islands. (Santorini & Mykonos) We're in our early 30's but pretend we're in our 20's lol ; )

This is a NO BRAINER. ARUBA ARUBA ARUBA. Nice beaches, gambling, and very safe.
The only downside is sometimes the beaches get a little windy.

Puerto Vallarta is very nice and has lots and lots of Mexican character. There is plenty of nightlife, yet it feels pretty safe. Don't know about gambling or golf. The beaches are nice, but the water is cold and often rough.

Ken

Photos of the place here:

http://community.webshots.com/user/lordbalfor

I found Puerto Vallarta to be a negative experience because it's run down and somewhat dirty in many places, reports say not necessarily safe if you venture away from the main tourist areas (so we didn't), and the beach/water are not worth travelling there for. I will never go back.

Aruba is opposite in most ways. Great beaches (though windy), very clean, very safe, more nice hotels/resorts. Aruba's main negatives are that it doesn't have much character of its own--it feels Americanized--and it's not pretty. Aruba is also a better value IMO.

Thank you for responding! Looks like it will be Aruba or possibly Hawaii - my husband has decided he doesn't want to go to Mexico.

Amy,

We just got back from Aruba for our honeymoon and had a pretty good time. I am in my early 20's and my husband is 31, and we both love to go out and have fun. There is plenty of nightlife & gambling in Aruba. Almost all of the large resorts have casinos. There are also numerous great resturaunts. The beaches are beautiful, but it is very windy (which would probably not be good for golf). The island defintely lacks in the "tropical" department. It is a desert island and very, very dry. We also thought it was very touristy and crowded. I am sure that Hawaii is much more beautiful and I am sure there is just as much nightlife there. I am glad that I have been to Aruba, but neither my husband nor I have plans to go back.
